Montague Ferry, President Winnetka League of Women Voters, has appointed as chairmen of standing committees in the league, Mrs. Earnest P. Bartlett, chairman of of the Efficiency in Government, and Mrs. William C. Van Horn, chairman of Legal Status of Women. Mrs, Bart- lett will be in charge of the opening meeting of the league when Judge Edmund K. Jarecki and the election commissioners of Chicago will present "A Day at the Polls." The series of study classes held dur- ing August by the Winnetka League of Women Voters with Mrs. W. W. Ramsay of Chicago as leader, were considered a great success by those in charge. Mrs. Ramsay who is a vice- president of the National league first brought to the members of the class a thorough understanding of league organizations and then later explained in detail the measures in which the league is especially interested, such as Federal Aid as it affects Women and Children, Child Labor and Education. So much interest was developed that there is a demand for more classes at an early date. Mrs. A. Montague Ferry, president of the Winnetka league, would be glad to have those interested in joining classes telphone her at Winnetka 716. McCaulley, direc- tor of the speakers' bureau of the Winnetka League of Women Voters, has invited the members of her com- mittee to her home, 844 Sunset road, Tuesday afternoon. Plans will be made for the. year's work which will cover the Get-Out-The-Vote cam- paign in the fall and the legislative work during the winter and spring months. Harold L. Ickes Gives Talk on Dahlia Culture Harold L. Ickes, of Hubbard Woods, gave an instructive talk on dahlia cul- ture at the regular monthly meeting of the Wilmette Evening Garden club Tuesday evening. He explained to the club the methods used to produce such a wealth of bloom as one sees in his garden on Tower road during August and September. The garden club was especially in- terested in the exhibit of Mr. Ickes' own dahlia seedlings. Among them was one which he has named Anna W. Ickes. It was given a rating of 86 per cent last year at the trial grounds of the American Dahlia so- ciety at Storrs, Conn. It is the only dahlia from this region which has ever been rated by this society. Mr. Ickes has several other 'seedlings at the trial grounds this vear and hopes to get ratings on them. At the October meeting of the club there will be a talk on mushrooms. Mr. and Mrs. George Prest, 965 Spruce street, have rented their home to E. M. Fales and family of Dayton, Ohio. The Prests are making their home in St. Paul.
