Magid -» NA SO 1 Si ------ om-- dl ho September 8, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 29 ON HIS JUBILEE TOUR John Philip Sousa's "Blue Danube" to Be One of Features of Concert in Evanston Club To hear Sousa and his band play "The Blue Danube"--that vision of laughter-loving Vienna--will be but one lure to the concerts which these makers of music will bring to Evans- ton September 22. Appearing that afternoon and eve- ning at Northwestern university gym- nasium, they will exemplify the spirit of national music and the times. They will be brought to Evanston by the Evanston League of Women Voters and the Associate Alumnae of North- western university. They will offer the first important musical event of the early season after months of qui- etude which have put the community into mood for the fine thing that this event assures. His appearance here will be a part of John Philip Sousa's jubilee tour, celebrating a half century service as knight of the baton. Committees from the league and the alumnae association have been in zealous activity for many weeks, in- cluding hot weeks of the late summer, making the arrangements for these concerts, trying to spread the ticket sale over as diverse a range as possi- ble, and including the school children all over the city. There is every rea- son to expect that the Sousa concerts will bring out the first great concert crowd of the season, pack the gymna- sium both afternoon and evening, and leave a stirring memory of something uncommonly fine by way of music after the concerts are past.
