Nr September 29, 1928 WINNETKA TALK John Hartnett in Charge of Peirce Stable of Horses John Hartnett, formerly superinten- dent and riding master at the Indian Hill Riding club and who for the past eighteen months has been conducting the Hartnett Riding Stables at 437 Chestnut street, Winnetka, has been engaged by Col. Albert E. Peirce, of. 656 Ardsles road, Winnetka, to take charge of his stud of high class hunters. Mr. Hartnett has disposed of most of his family of high class jumpers, but still owns Great Scott and Black Sand. Great Scott is censidered one of the best horses Mr. Hartnett ever owned, both as to beauty and performance. This season he won three ribbons at Lake Forest, competing against the best class thoroughbreds of the north shore. Also, at the Palatine Society horse show, Great Scott won five rib- bons, including two blues, where he was the center of attraction in his per- formance. Great Scott is a bright bay gelding, bred in Canada and registered in the Canadian Jockey club. His sire is Great Britain, his dam, Flora Bassett, both thoroughbreds of high reputation. Mr. Hartnett has owned other cham- pion jumpers on the north shore, in- cluding Melwood, Gibson Girl, Cabin Boy, Wild Wave, Shureput, and others equally well known, all blue ribbon winners, ENTERS SCHOOL ABROAD Mr. and Mrs. John Crawford Mec- Keown of Private road have returned from their summer home at Pentwater, Mich.
