Speech School The identification of the playwriting classes of the Drama club with the School of Speech, Northwestern uni- versity, effected with the opening of the university this autumn, ties the "town and gown" little theater move- ment closer and makes the announced reorganization of the various theatrical groups at the university of particular interest this year to the community. Garrett H. Leverton is the newly ap- pointed professor of dramatic produc- tion in the School of Speech to suc- ceed Prof. David Owen, who resigned last spring. Prof. Leverton will be director of the University theater, which will com- prise six producing groups--the School of Speech theater, the Playshop, the Children's theater, the Campus players, the Prentice players and the Repertory theater. Sixteen plays will be offered by the University theater, and season tickets will be available to both stu- dents and townspeople. Season tickets carry the privilege of reserved seats for each play. The first production of the season will be Molnar's "Liliom." This will be presented by the School of Speech theater under the direction of Prof. Leverton, with settings by Dean Farns- worth. "Liliom" will be ready for production in October. Following this will come the first pro- duction of the Repertory theater, a newly organized unit of the University theater. This group will produce one of the popu- lar modern comedies or farces each month. The plays in the repertoire will be shown in and around Chicago, and in towns in central Illinois during vaca- tions. John F. Baird, assistant in pro- duction, will direct some of these plays. The first play of the Repertory theater will be "Tommy," which will be shown in October. This will be followed by "The Butter and Egg Man" in November. The Playshop will produce plays writ- ten in the classes in playwriting con- ducted by Prof. Theodore B. Hinckley. Three original plays will be produced by the Playshop under the personal direc- tion of Mrs. Charlotte Chorpenning of the dramatic department of the school of speech. The first production is scheduled for December. Another innovation this year will be the production of a play with a cast composed entirely of freshmen. The first play with yearling cast will be "Merton of the Movies," which will be produced under Prof. Leverton's direction the last week in October. The Children's theater again will be under the direction of Miss Winifred Ward. Four plays will be produced by the Children's theater this year, the first one in November. The Campus players and the Prentice players, old student organizations, will be closely affiliated with the University theater, but will retain their student identity. Kelly, of 1071 Ash street, Winnetka, collided at Tower road and Vernon avenue, Monday afternoon- at 5:30; Smith suffering a painful cut on his hand. - The léft front fender and steering gear of his car were demolished and the steering gear of the Kelly car also was broken, ac- cording to Officers William Cazel and J.
