September 29, 1928 WINNETKA TALK New Trier Chooses Intramural Teams for Football Play Intramural football at New Trier High school got under way last week, when about. eighty players turned out for the first practice. The first week was spent in conditioning the boys and giving them the fundamentals of the game. This week the squad which now numbers ninety-six has been di- vided into eight teams, four light and four heavyweight. Everyone should be able to play now as more suits have arrived, according to reports from the coaches. Each team has been named after some college or institution. All the heavyweight teams are named after Big Ten schools. Mr. Ream's team is named Purdue, Mr. Funkhauser's is Chicago, Laurin Bennett's is Illinois and W. L. Brown's is Indiana. Lightweight Teams The lightweight teams are :--Harv- ard, coached by Mr. Aram; Yale, coached by Mr. Wehr; Navy, coached by Mr. Oaks; and Army, coached by Lyman Goss. All the coaches except two are members of the New Trier faculty. "Laurie" Bennett and Lyman Goss are students who were on the varsity last fall. "Laurie," who was center last season and one of the team's biggest assets, is doing post-graduate work. Goss, who played fullback last year, 1s a senior now. _The intramural season will last six weeks. Each team will play nine games, two in one week and one in the next. The schedule for next week is: Monday--Purdue vs. Illinois and Army vs. Harvard; Wednesday--1In- diana vs. Harvard; Friday--Indiana vs. Purdue and Navy vs. Yale. At the end of the season there will be finals in both divisions and each member of the winning team will be given a medal, Robert Kershaw, son of Dr. and Mrs. Bert Kershaw of 325 Woodland ave- nue, has been pledged to Delta Upsilon fraternity at Northwestern university and has moved into the fraternity house. -- Speaks to Ministers Bishop Edwin H. Hughes, of Wil- mette, gave the keynote address at a meeting of 800 ministers of several Protestant denominations in the Chi- cago temple last Monday. The min- isters were gathered from all parts of the city to discuss a campaign of evangelism. Announcement has been made by Mr. and Mrs. John H. Glenn of Ellen- dale, N. D. of the birth of a daughter, Elizabeth, on September 15. Mrs. (Glenn was formerly Miss Margaret White, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James A. White of 1341 Tower road.
