Hoping to increase its membership, which has been approximately 1,500, to 1,650 within the new year, the guild at Sunday's reception to Walter Prichard Eaton, dramatic critic of national repu- tation, will formally open the campaign to be advanced within near weeks. This will be held at the home of Walter A. Strong, publisher of the Chicago Daily News, Mr. and Mrs. Strong receiving in the theater and ballroom which they have built in their beautiful home at 1377 Tower road, Winnetka. Cards have been sent to officers, directors and committee members of the guild, but not to the membership in general, but they, and all others interested in little theater activities, are extended cordial invitation to attend the recep- tion. It will be informal. Henry Kit- chell Webster will introduce Mr. Eaton, and the latter will speak at 4. The guild is looking ahead to a par- ticularly interesting repertoire of plays this season. The first Evanston pro- duction is scheduled for Nov. 14 and 15 at the Woman's club, the play to be announced later. David Owen. who resigned his membership on the faculty of the School of Speech, Northwestern university, to devote his entire time to directing the productions of the guild, will have an able assistant in Richard Woellhof who comes from the Uni- versity of Michigan, where he worked with Mr. Owen, to be technical direc- tor of the guild activities. He succeeds Aleyn H. Burtis who served in this office last season. The president of the guild, Arthur H. Boettcher of Evans- ton, left this week for a month's busi- ness trip abroad, but will actively re- sume direction of the organization upon his return. Three Evanston women have been appointed membership campaign chair- men for the local territory this season --Mrs. Fred Parker, Mrs. Charles E. Parkhill and Mrs. K. H. Dixon. Mrs. Sherman Aldrich of Hubbard Woods. FASHION SHIP MODELS Contestants to Take Part in Christmas Seal Preliminary Conducted by Chi- cago Tuberculosis Institute Children and adults are invited to participate -in a model ship-building contest which the Chicago Tuberculo- sis institute is conducting in connec- tion with its Christmas seal campaign. The type of contest has been prompted by the nature of this year's seal, of which the decorative subject is a painted frigate. Sale of Christ- mas seals is the Tuberculosis institute's method of raising funds each year for its work. Competition in ship-building will be conducted in two classes: A for school children below their sophomore year in high school, or tenth grade; and class B for older people. Amateurs from all over Cook county will enter the contest which will in- clude participants from manual train- ing classes, occupational therapy classes, as well as unaffiliated individ- uals. Names of the entrants are due in the Chicago office by Oct. 15, and the last day for the submission of ship models is Nov. 22. Prizes are offered by Marshall Field and company, and the winning models will be displayed in windows of loop firms. a member of the board of directors, is general chairman of the membership campaign.
