September 29, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 63 Impressive Ceremony Attends Cornerstone Laying at Seminary In impressive ceremony with proces- sional of eminent dignitaries of the Western Theological seminary, North- western university and Garrett insti- tute, the cornerstone of the seminary was laid Sunday afternoon. Construction of the seminary plant was started this summer at Sheridan road and Haven street, and the twelve buildings, which will eventually make up the group, will be located across Sheridan road from Garrett institute which granted a portion of the build- ing site to the Episcopal institution. The cornerstone of the seminary was laid by the Rt. Rev. Sheldon M. Gris- wold, suffragan bishop of the Diocese of Chicago. Dr. William C. De Witt, president of the seminary, delivered the address. Other speakers included Dr. Walter Dill Scott, president of Northwestern university, and Dr. Fred- erick Carl Eiselen, president of Gar- rett institute. Members of the faculties and deans of the university and in- stitute schools took part in the pro- cession. Following the ceremonies, Dean Frederick C. Grant of the seminary and Mrs. Grant received at their home, 2145 Orrington avenue. . The seminary was established in 1883 and operated for forty years on the west side of Chicago. In 1922 North- western university invited the seminary to locate in close proximity to its campus, the bid reinforced by the grant of the land from Garrett. A build- ing delay was caused by litigation with the city over zoning regulations, but the work is now well under way and approximately 000 of the $750,000 needed to complete the plan, has been raised. Completion of the building fund will be undertaken shortly, authorities announce. Classes of the seminary will reopen in October at St. Mark's church, Gar- rett institute and Northwestern uni- versity. W. C. T. U. MEETING The W. C. T. U. of Wilmette and Winnetka will meet next Monday at 2 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Charles Bickell, 202 Golf terrace, Wilmette. The speaker is to be announced. New Trier Music Club to Hold Tryouts Wednesday The Junior Music club of New Trier High school will hold tryouts Wednes- day of next week for those who wish to become members of the club. The club is desirous of enlarging its mem- bership, as several students were lost by graduation or by transfer to the Senior Music club. Officers of the Junior Music club for this year are: Eloise Kremer, president; Ruth Brower, vice president ; Katherine Ellis, secretary ; Paul Gilbert, treasurer ; and Mari Koretz, social chairman. Miss Adelaide Jones is fac- ulty sponsor of the organization, which held a brief business meeting last week. Miss Caroline Roberts, daughter of the John Marshall Roberts, 328 War- wick road, Kenilworth, left last week for Dana hall at Wellesley, Mass. ---- Mrs. Victor Sanborn, formerly of Kenilworth, entertained her bridge club last Tuesday at her home in Lake Forest.
