This pair of games is not causing as much worry on the Midway as did the two last Saturday, for the Maroons will be much improved this week. Stagg found himself in an impossible situation last Saturday, with two games scheduled, and scarcely two teams to put in the field. Many of the men he was forced to use had not been able to put in much time in prac- tice, because of injuries and ineligibili- ties, and the lack of preparation hurt badly. Iowa comes to the Midway next Saturday to open the conference sea- son, and will bring Mayes McLain, the Indian fullback who was called a sec- ond Jim Thorpe when he played at Haskell. OPEN NEW CAFETERIA The Howard Udell cafeteria, located in Highland Park, this week announces its readiness to serve the public of the north shore. The eating place is housed in the new Udell building which is regarded as one of the finest com- mercial and apartment structures on the north shore. Miss Marjorie Oleson of Kenilworth, Miss Elizabeth Eberhart of Evanston formerly of Kenilworth, and Miss Rose Flentye left last week to attend Ward Belmont school for girls in Ten- nessee, ay Mr. and Mrs. Walter Knoop, 221 Warwick road, Kenilworth have their nephew, Dean Farley of California, spending the winter with them. He expects to enter New Trier High school as a junior. Illini to Open Football Season Against Bradley The 'interest of football fans all around the state is focused on the University of Illinois as Coach Zup- pke's varsity squad makes ready to open the season in the Illini stadium against Bradley this Saturday . Many enthusiasts will travel to Champaign to obtain a first glimpse of the Illini. Boy Scout troops of the state will be guests of the university and it is expected that some 4,000 will march into the stadium and present their flag ceremony just before the game. The school children of Champaign, Piatt, Douglas, Ford, Vermillion and Mclean counties will also be guests. Bradley, champion of the Little Nineteen, is expected to furnish a lively brush for the Big Ten cham- pions. Zuppke will use a veteran line- up at the start but the most likely new candidates will also get a chance. Lettermen who are sure to get into the game are Capt. Butch Nowack, Gordon and Burdick, tackles; Crane, McClure and Wietz, guards; Jolley, end; Stuessy and Peters, quarter- backs; Timm, Mills and Walker, half- backs, and Humbert, fullback. Several new backs are sure to see action, among them Ken Fields and Chattin, quarterbacks; Chuck Hall, Pete Yanuskus, halfbacks; and Bod- man and Robinson, fullbacks. Other candidates who may be seen are Ringquist, Roush and Schumacher, centers; Hills, Wheeler, Van Schaack, Edelmann, forwards; Lewis, Hickman, Tarwain and Hinton, ends.
