CS musements Varsity Theater Shows Timely Baseball Film As the baseball season in the big league ends and the attention of sports fans is directed to the world's series, the Varsity theater of Evanston is now showing a timely picture, "Warming Up," with Richard Dix. It is a story of baseball, and a first class picture too. Richard Dix, in the role of the bush- er who makes good with the Yankees and wins the girl from the villianous Pittsburgh star pitcher, is as likeable as ever and his director and cast couldn't have been improved upon. Jean Arthur is his leading lady. The ball game in the picture is a dandy, and the cheering of the crowds is por- trayed well with the help of sound at- tachments. The Imperial Russian Cossacks, Moscow's favorite musicians, and Har- ry Delf, Broadway comedian, are also on the vitaphone at the Varsity this Friday and Saturday. "Lights of New York," the first pic- ture in which every character talks, will be the Varsity presentation for next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednes- day. This melodrama of Manhattan night life aroused a lot of attention from the New York critics. The pic- ture is full of murder and attempted crime. The cast is headed by Helene Costello, Wheeler Oakman, Cullen Landis, and Gladys Brockwell Short subjects on the Varsity vita- phone next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will be Ed Lowry and his orchestra and the Foy family.
