Irish Film, Is Theater Offering "The Phanton City," a story of the West featuring one of the screen's foremost western stars, Ken Maynard, is to be shown at the Teatro del Lago this Saturday. The picture abounds in thrills and 1s filled with action from start to finish. "Anybody Here Seen Kelly?" a pic- ture suggested by the old song of the same name, is to be the comedy at- traction at the Teatro del Lago this Sunday, October 7. An almost all- Irish company was cast for the picture. Bessie Love, who plays the feminine lead, is the only mem- ber who was not born in Ireland or descended from Irish ancestors. This Celtic relationship is very appropriate as the film deals with Irish romance and humor, although the locale is France and New York. Tom Moore plays opposite Bessie Love. Every human being throughout his life is held within the confines of "Four Walls." That is the theme be- hind John Gilbert's starring picture of that name which comes to the Teatro del Lago next Monday and Tuesday. Once in a while, so the picture shows, an occasional man or woman will break through the restraining walls of convention and be free. Then they either do great things or society out- laws them. Perhaps they achieve a great love or create great art. They are the true "free souls." The locale of the picture is the East side of New York city. Joan Crawford is the lead- ing lady. Taken From Tolstoy Novel Tolstoy's "Resurrection," the flesh- and-blood drama of prince and peas- ant love, sacred and profane, brings Rod LaRocque and Dolores Del Rio to the screen of the Teatro del Lago next Wednesday, October 10. M. La- Rocque plays the role of the prince who sinned and sorrowed. Miss del Rio is Katusha Maslova, the peasant ward of his two maiden aunts, the girl whose love is defiled and sullied, only to be won again through the remorse of the prince. The film story is almost iden- tical with that of the novel. Colleen Moore will be seen at the Teatro del Lago next Thursday and Friday in "Oh, Kay" The picture marks Miss Moore's return to the field of comedy for the first time since her appearance in "Her Wild Oat," and following her recent successes in two serious dramatic productions, "Happi- ness Ahead" and "Lilac Time." She is supported by Alan Hale, Lawrence Gray, Ford Sterling, Claude Gilling- water and Julanne Johnston in impor- tant roles. Noah Beery has been signed for a featured role in "Desert Love." "The Street Angel" is a fit successor to "Seventh Heaven" and just as delight- ful a setting for the shining Miss Gay- nor and Mr. Farrell. When "The Street Angel" was first shown in the loop a Chicago critic had this to say concerning it: ". ..... the story is of two lowly and lonely young people who find the answer to the des- perate cry of their hearts in each other Their romance is a sustained and beau- tiful thing, like music--now glad, now sad; now dipping into the depths of tragedy, now lark-like, singing joyous- ly close to heaven. The musical score, haunting and ineffably lovely, charms you into thrilled ecstatic absorption." The picture is charming. Scenery, sets, plot, direction and music are ex- cellent. As its stage production for next week the Norshore is offering a new show entitled, "Melody a la Mode," with Al Kvale swinging the baton and "None But the Brave" Is Community House Picture There is laughter, beauty, and rom- ance to be had at the Community House, where "None But the Brave," will be shown next Tuesday night October 9. It is the story of a college hero, played by Charles Morton, who finds that the athletic trophies won in college are of no use in the business world. But he has to eat and so he dons the raiment of a life guard which car- ries him through many tight situations to the feet of Sally Phipps, who por- trays a young business woman in search of her man. What takes place there- after is delightfully interesting. A new setting and new situations characterize the photoplay, "Buck Privates," featuring Lya De Putti and Malcolm McGregor, which will be on the screen at the Commuunity House next Friday. McGregor plays a buck private and contributes both to the comedy and romance of the picture, while Miss De Putti is perfectly nat- ural as a little German girl. The story concerns the adventures, mostly comic, of the American Army of Oc- cupation in a beautiful little German village nestling against the banks of the Rhine near Coblenz. Zasu Pitts, Eddie Gribbon, and others are also in the cast.
