2 WINNETKA TALK October 20, 1928 ADD TO BUILDING FUND Approximately $1,500 is added to the fund for the Woman's building at Northwestern university by the Asso- ciate alumnae of the university as a result of the concerts given by John Philip Sousa and his band on the af- ternoon and evening of September 22, it is announced. The benefit was given under the auspices of the Evanston League of Women Voters and the As- sociate alumnae of Northwestern uni- versity. This latter group has now, in cash and pledges, a little more than $100,000. IREDALE Mallinckrodt Mothers' Club Elects Officers The Mothers' club of Mallinckrodt High school met Friday, October 6, to elect officers for the new year. Mrs. Francis T. O'Brien of 735 Fox- dale avenue, Winnetka was elected presi- dent; Mrs. John Hoffman, 1922 Wil- mette avenue, vice-president; and Mrs. Frank Barry of 1537 Central avenue, secretary and treasurer. A card party for the benefit of the building fund will be given at the school auditorium, Ridge and Walnut avenues, Wilmette, on Hallowe'en afternoon, Wednesday, October 31, at 2 oclock. Bridge, five-hundred, and bunco will State Convention of W.C.T.U. Will Meet in Evanston Oct. 24 Mayor Charles H. Bartlett will bring the greetings from the city of Evans- ton to the state session of the Woman's Christian Temperance union to be held there at the First Methodist Episcopal church, Wednesday, Oct. 24, to Friday, Oct. 26, inclusive. Pres. C. D. Hardy of the Evanston chamber of commerce; Mrs. Charles William Spofford, president of the Evanston Woman's club; the Rev. Ernest Fremont Tittle, First Metho- dist pastor; Mrs. Catherine Waugh McCullough, important women's leader ; ning. Mrs. Lottie Holman O'Neill will be one of the speakers. Thursday morning there will be elec- tion of officers and the introduction of visitors. A pageant of department work will be presented by the direc- tors. In the evening the national president, Mrs. Ella Boole, will give an address. There will be a visit to Rest cottage and the administration building of the national organization that afternoon. Friday, with adjournment of the con- vention, delegates will go to Rosehill cemetery where memorial services will be held at the grave of Frances E. Willard. CLUB GIVES DANCE Club Vista del Lago entertained at an informal dance Wednesday eve- ning, October 17. A business meet- ing at 8 o'clock preceded the dance. Mrs. Claude G. Burnham, 536 Roslyn road, Kenilworth, left Sunday, October 14 for Stockbridge, Mass. where she expects to spend two or three weeks. From there she will go to Princeton, president of the Cook County W. C. T. U., and Mrs. Leona Thomas, presi- dent of the Waukegan union, will be among the other speakers at the open- ing session of this, the 54th annual convention of the Illinois union. The annual report of the state presi- dent, Miss Helen L. Hood, will be made the morning of the opening day, and in the afternoon Miss Epha Marshall, state corresponding secretary, will re- port the year's work. Both are resi- dents of Evanston. There will be re- ports of the young people's work and that of the Loyal Temperance legion, and there will be addresses by Miss Winona Jewell and Mrs. Flora Han- son, both of the national union and directors of the two departments.
