Self-Feeder Does Trick Boilers of the self-feeding type have made possible the elimination of coal shoveling during the day and the banking of the fire at night. Fuel is added only when the reserve supply in the magazine becomes low and all the regular attention needed is the shaking of the grates night and morn- ing. Easy to Make Small Hall Pretty Spot in the Home Not every house may have an im- pressive and spacious hallway, but no matter what the size of the hall, with a little time and dexterous ingenuity it can be converted into one of the prettiest spots in the house. PLAN MORTGAGE BOND STUDY A study of real estate mortgage bond issues will be made by the Con- necticut Association of Real Estate Boards, according to a resolution passed at the annual convention of the Assocjation just held in Bridgeport. Pointing out the need of protection for the people of the state against unprincipled and irresponsible real estate agents the Association asks en- actment of a state real estate license law for Connecticut. INVENTORY TO AVERT 'BOOMS' Cities through their real estate boards may systematically take inven- tory of their real estate supply, both as to vacant and as to occupied prop- erty. And, where this is being done, in more than one case the city has averted threatened "boom" conditions, dispelled popularly exaggerated no- tions of over-building, stabilized real estate values, and made a more ready and stable market for real estate as a commodity. R. E. MEN STUDY CITY PLANS Pointing out that men in the busi- ness of real estate are the only group whose purely selfish interests, if no higher motive exists, demand that study of the subject of city planning or land planning be a part of their daily office routine, the Arkansas Real Estate Association is asking for the initiation in every community in the state of a program of public educa- tion as to the need for proper planning and execution of civic improvement programs. . { we ---- as... = RES THE CHAP WHO INGS YOU SORROW-- ALWAYS DOING THINGS TOMORROW, OLB MAN NEGLECT We feel very hostile towards OLD MAN NEGLECT; he's responsible for a lot of discomfort and suffering. Do You Know-- HAT Chicago is to have a seven- teen story home for nurses. Plans nave been drawn for this home to serve the Cook County hospital. It is pro- posed to erect this huge home on a site 500x106 on Lincoln street, directly west of the hospital. The plans call for eleven dormitory floors--each floor to contain fifty-six rooms, or a total of 616 rooms. These rooms would provide accommodations for 616 stu- dent nurses. Besides providing housing for the nurses, the building would con- tain a swimming pool, recreation rooms, six reception rooms, dining rooms and a large number of class rooms. If the heating plant does not seem entirely satisfactory, give your manu- facturer a chance to make good. The fault may be due to poor firing, wrong kind of coal, to the chimney, to lack of insulation, or to failure in having stopped the wind leaks in the house. Wire fences of either the woven or chain link type may now be given a permanent color in any desired shade of green or brown to harmonize with the home entourage. "CONTRACT RAIDERS" WARNED Warning to purchasers of subdivis- ion property against the menace of "contract raiding" has been issued by the Chicago Real Estate Board in let- ters sent out to recent purchasers of suburban lots in its territory. These letters caution holders of property who may be solicited to trade their lots or equities for other real estate to scrutinize carefully both the property offered in trade and the reputation of the firm making the offer. The Chicago Board offers its services with- out charge as consultant to any pur- chaser of subdivision property ap- proached with such an offer. NEW YORK JOLTS "FREE LOTS" The penal law of the State of New York "utterly forbids use of the 'free lot' scheme" in selling real estate, ac- cording to an opinion given by Albert Ottinger, attorney general, in a letter to A. C. MacNulty, deputy secretary of state, in charge of the administration of the New York real estate license law. Concrete porches and steps are easy to keep clean, do not sag or splinter, and by finishing them with a gritty surface slipping can be prevented.
