ao November 10, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 4 North Shore Youth Gains Scholastic Honors at Antioch William Lloyd, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Lloyd, 455 Birch street, Win- netka, has won recognition for scho- lastic work of high quality at Antioch college, Yellow Springs, Ohio. Lloyd graduated from New Trier High school, and entered Antioch in 1927. This college is attracting the atten- tion of the whole educational world, and its students come from all over the United States and from foreign countries. Antioch's aim is to examine critically traditional methods, to de- termine what kinds of knowledge are most necessary for effective living, what are the most universal experiences for which young men and women should be prepared both as individuals and members of society, and to arrive at a well-balanced distribution of time and effort among these issues. Lloyd is employed during alternate five-week periods this year in the Cin- cinnati Milling Machine company shops. Through the guidance and counsel of members of the Personnel department of the college, through whom these positions are secured for students, and advice of other faculty members, the practical work done by Antioch students becomes a great edu- cational experience. Antioch students are employed in 175 firms in eleven states. These posi- tions, offering varied experiences to the students, are an invaluable resource in building character and personality. Upon graduation each student has had a thorough introduction to a wide range of cultural subjects to fit him or her for more intelligent living, is pro- fessionally trained and has gained a fundamental working acquaintance with real life in various callings.
