JOURNALISTS CONVENE Sigma Delta Chi Holds Its Annual National Convention in Evanston Northwestern university was host this week to 75 visiting delegates of the 40 chapters of Sigma Delta Chi, na- tional journalistic fraternity, who as- sembled for their annual convention. Men active in the newspaper world of 'Chicago and surrounding states, some of whom are alumni of the fraternity, were speakers at the con- vention sessions. James A. Stuart, national president and editor of the Indianapolis Star, presided, and among those. who addressed the gathering were : Karl A. Bickel, president of the United Press, who stressed the import- ance of news coming from Latin America; Harry F. Harrington, director of the Medill school of Journalism of Northwestern; S.-J. :Duncan-Clark, chief editorial writer- of the Chicago Evening Post; William S. Hedges, radio editor of the Chicago Daily News; Clyde C. Hamilton, aviation editor of the News; Arthur G. Sheek- man, column conductor, Chicago Daily Journal. President Walter Dill Scott ad- dressed the assembly at luncheon Tues- day noon. Among the affairs arranged by the local chapter to fete the visiting journalists were a luncheon Monday which Mayor Charles H. Bartlett ad- dressed; a tea given by Theta Sigma Phi, women's national journalistic fraternity ; a smoker at the Press club of Chicago, dinners at the university fraternity houses and a dance at the North Shore hotel last night.
