This poem was first given as a toast at a celebration of Lincoln's birthday at the Allied Arts association in Chi- cago in February, 1927, and was pub- lished in a well known woman's maga- zine last February. Mrs. Boman is more than 70 years of age and the mother of six children. She was so moved by the sentiment expressed in Mrs. Spicer's poem that she was able to write the music for it despite the fact that she has never had any musical training. Mrs. Boman declares her work is solely the result of inspiration.
