December 8, 1928 WINNETKA TALK Addition at Sears School Opened for Inspection Saturday The recently completed Joseph Sears school addition in Kenilworth will be open for inspection by the pub- lic from 7 to 10 o'clock Saturday eve- ning of this week. The addition, which faces on Abbottsford road and adjoins the old wing of the school on Cumber- land avenue, was erected at a cost of approximately $150,000. Construction work has been in progress for the last held in the new building last week. The kindergarten and the first five grades are now using the addition, which has a capacity for about 375 pu- pils. This is considered sufficient to take care of the growth of the schoo! for several years. Until the new build- ing was finished temporary quarters were established for the lower grades in a house adjoining the classroom and gymnasium addition on the south. A total of approximately $210,000 is to be expected for the building pro- gram at the Joseph Sears school. The gymnasium unit, work on which was started a few months after that of the classroom addition, will cost in the neighborhood of $60,000. Supt. E. L. Nygaard stated this week that he ex- pected the gymnasium to be ready for use about January 1. The plastering and plumbing work and the laying of the floor remains to be done. Crossing Gateman Killed by Train at Kenilworth | 3 Ernest Fried, 2421 W. Madison street, Chicago, gateman for the Chi- cago and North Western railroad in Kenilworth, was struck by a north- bound passenger train at 12:20 p. m. last Friday and instantly killed. The accident occurred at the foot crossing opposite the Kenilworth station where a small girl was killed several months ago. The body of the gateman was im- pelled or carried approximately 140 feet north of the gate, according to the police record, which states that the y | blood stains 50 feet north of the gate six months, and the first classes were | indicate that the body may have struck | the fence before falling to the ground. The "stop" warning sign used by Fried was found lying on the ground immediately adjacent to and north of the gate, and, according to W. J.
