Pershing Rifles Chapter Organized at Northwestern A chapter of the Pershing Rifles, an honorary drill organization founded by Gen. John J. Pershing at the Uni- versity of Nebraska in 1892, has been organized in the army R. O. T. C. at Northwestern university by Major Dale F. McDonald, professor of mili- tary science and tactics. Major Mec- Donald was a member of the organiza- tion when he was a student at Ne- braska. General Pershing organized the Pershing Rifles as a purely local unit when he was professor of military science and tactics at Nebraska. Per- mission to organize other chapters was granted, and the local unit became a national organization. 'The North- western chapter is the third to be in- stalled in Big Ten schools this year. The University of Illinois and Indiana university recently completed their chapter organizations. The eight men comprising the char- ter members of the Northwestern chapter were selected by Major Mc- Donald for their record in the R. O. T. C.
