Pearse, 1114 Merrill ave- nue, will return for the Christmas holidays next Saturday from Purdue university, "Flu" Rages Abroad; Mild in Character But Very Dangerous The epidemic of influenza, la grippe, or what have you, which came rushing eastward from California a few days ago appears to have, settled definitely in New Trier township. Five hundred pupils were absent from New Trier High school Wednes- day morning, Health Officer H. A. Orvis reported, and fifty-eight more were dismissed that day. There are hundreds of other cases throughout the north shore, most of which have not been reported to health officials, a presumption substantiated by the fact that physicians are kept going night and day. One cheering piece of news which they bring, however, is that this epidemic is of a much milder form than some epidemics of this nature in the past, and is much less prone to complications. Physicians, however, would not have the public get the impression there is not urgent need of taking every pre- caution. Even though this is a more playful little germ than the type which in- vaded this section several years ago, yet it is a highly dangerous fellow, and warning is sounded that he must be respected. Don't think you can wear him out You cannot. If you get the "flu" go to bed and remain there until the fever has subsided for at least twenty-four hours and obey your physician's advice.
