STORM ORDINANCE READ The members of the new Board of Local Improvements held their first meeting, Tuesday evening, in the Vil- lage Hall. The Board consists of E. A. Rummler, President, George D. Wolf and Charles S. Ostrom. The new assessor, H. I. Orwig was present. Charles O. Squiers presented peti- tions. for a water main and a sewer on Elder Lane, from Forest avenue to Church street, and for a water main and a sewer on Garland avenue. A petition was presented from R. D. Fraser for permission to lay a water main on Hamptondale avenue at a cost of $1,000. The petitions were granted. : As it is practically impossible for building lots to be sold to any ad- vantage until modern improvements have been placed there is little dis- cussion on the subject usually. Gar- land avenue has a good number of lots for disposal and is one of many similar places. People nowadays do not buy from maps, they make a businesslike visit to the scene of op- erations and the first query of the agent is apt to be one regarding water mains and sewers. Winnetka is growing rapidly and the placing of streets, building lots and all the accompanying parapher- nalia is not a simple matter. A glance at a village map shows wind- ing streets that very easily can cause awkward angles to any new street which has not been laid out with care. Sometimes a property owner desirous of working up his building lots to the best possible advantage will place a sewer or water main to suit himself, | quite ignorant of any previous drape; age, and become decidedly out of sorts when he is informed that his scheme would be impracticable when an existing system is taken into ac- count. This does happen at a Board meeting occasionally and a great amount of arguing and explaining is Rhyland Kennels Highland Park, Ill. Dogs Boarded Airedales, Scottish and Wire Fox Terriers For Sale. The Village Board of Trustees held a special meeting after the meeting of the Board of Local Improvements had been adjourned for the reading of an ordinance covering the storm water sewer system in the southeast section of the village. Now that the intercepting sewer system has been completed as far as' Glencoe attention is being focused on the storm sewers which can empty into the lake without danger of pol- luting its water. All the bathing beaches along the north shore are going to profit by the new drainage system. It is sure to raise the value of suburban property higher than any limit yet reached. The work of planning the sewage system for storm water is progressing steadily. The Village Board of Trus- tees is studying the best method of covering the town for that purpose and is spending time and patience in consideration of obstacles.
