WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, FRIDAY, MARCH 14. 1919 7 . | | | New Trier Sport Notes OH! YOU FEATHERWEIGHTS HERE'S LUCK TO YOU | It looks as though the only New| Trier basketball team of the three | classes to win a championship in the | league, will be the small but scrappy | featherweights. { | They have not heen scored with a | defeat as yet and in nearly all the | : games played won by a big score. The | lads demonstrated dash and pep last | Saturday when they played LaGrange | at New Trier and beat them de-| cisively 38 to 14. The score for the first three quarters was 34 to 4 in favor of New Trier, Prescott shoot- | ing eleven baskets some of them from | difficult positions. Beginning the | last quarter he and two other regu-| lars were taken out to give way to | three substitutes. In the last quarter | La Grange shot 5 baskets. ' The local | boys are pretty sure of winning the | championship of the league judg- | ing by the records of their oppon- | ents. | Heavies 21; Deerfield 20 In the best game of the season on! the local floor with the exception of | the Evanston game, New Trier beat | Deerfield 21 to 20. The game was ex- | citing throughout, New Trier taking | the lead in the second half and keep- | ing it but was in danger of losing it | at all times until the final whistle. | Competitive Drill Friday = | Owing to the fact that the review- | ing officers were unable to attend the | competitive drill Monday it was post- | poned to Friday of this week. The | competition will be strong for the prizes it is announced. The review- | ing officers are: Major S. H. Vowell, Major George R. Harbaugh, Captain F. A. Rye and Captain C. C. Mitchell. Marshmallow Munchers Lose The Marshmallow Munchers lost the dual meet held with The Fudge Fighters on Tuesday 431-2 to 241-2. Ramsay is the leader of the Fudge Fighters and was instrumental in de- feating the Munchers so easily. This was the second meet of the Intra- Mural Confectionery Swimming | meet. Lightweights Beat Riverside The Lightweights played Riverside Friday and won 20 to 8 in a snappy affair on the Oak Park floor. New Trier showed their superiority in every branch of the game by dis- playing an unusual brand of team | work and gameness. | ~ The Heavyweights play Morton | High and the lightweights play Bloom Friday night at New Trier. Two hard | games are expected as Bloom and Morton have good records. The featherweights play at Thorn- ton Saturday afternoon and expect to win an easy victory. EERE SHELL SHOCE. YANKS EARN MONEY MAKING ARTICLES AT POST The shell shocked men at Fort | Sheridan are being taught various! kinds of "hand craft" by workers | who have spent a great deal of time in' learning these different kinds of | work in the hospitals. Polishing | wood, stenciling, carving, painting | and weaving are among the kinds of | work the men are doing and the ex-| cellent quality of their work and the | interest they take in it is remarkable | as well as pathetic. . A large number of oilcloth mats have been made by men in the differ- ent wards. These mats are made of different colored oilcloths which are to be cut into any size desired and are to be used as doilies. Designs are painted on them and they arc very attractive to use in a summer home. This sort of work is the firs thing that the reconstruction workers give to the men to try to interest them in something, and it is only in this way that their condition can be improved. Utter lack of interest is the hardest condition the workers among the shall shecl-ed men have to contend with and that condition is present in almost every case of shell shock, sn» when the patients become sufficiently interested in work of some kind the physicians feel that they are on the raid road to recovery. Soldiers are tokino orders for work of this kind which are sent in hy north shore people interested in the work at For "Fas The completed nrticles o G SPY bh ridan, through the sales department each soldier who makes the rticle receives a certain mount hi for the article sold. Ask the man in your block what he thinks of our DRI- KURED retreated tires. We'll rest the decision with him. In almost every neighborhood on the North Shore there are one or more automobile owners who have discovered the way to tire economy by turning their worn tires in to us and having them retreaded and given from 3,500 to 7,000 miles of additional life. Considerably more than 1,000 North Shore automobile owners are now saving from 50 per cent to 66 2-3 per cent on their tire bills by using our retreaded tires. Don't take our word for it. Take theirs. Then telephone to us to send around for your worn tires. Or better still, come around to our fully equipped and modern plant and let us show you this interesting process.
