Professor McConathy has been offered the position of dean of the school of music of the State Uni- versity of Towa and he is now ser- iously studying the advisability of giving up his work in Evanston to accept the position in Iowa. The Iowa State University has large plans worked out to make the school of music a leading institution of its kind in the country. Music study at Towa receives academic recognition equal to any other university in the coun- try. offered but Professor McConathy is offered the opportunity to build up the school from the bottom along the most advanced lines in every par- ticular. Professor McConathy is well known throughout the country as a leader in public music education, as an author of text books on the sub- ject, as a lecturer and as a writer. He has twice been the president of the music section of the National Education association and has just completed his term as president of the Music Supgrvisors' National con- ference. He is president of the Chi- cago chapter of the Society of Amer- ican Musicians. He is well known in Evanston not only through the work of his department in the university but also as director of music in District 75 public schools, as chair- man of the committee on communi- ty music of the Evanston war coun- cil and as director of the children's chorus at the May festivals. This is the second offer extended to a Northwestern university pro- fessor by Iowa university within the last month. Professor Roy C.
