LT I -- ¥ 6 WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, FRIDAY, JULY 18, 1919 WILMETTE WINS CLOSE GAME FROM WINNETKA Takes 5 To 4 Argument by Ninth In- ning Rush; Four Hundred North Shore Fans Witness Real Ball Game Wilmette's ball team won again Sunday. They trimmed Winnetka 5 to 4 annexing the game only after overcoming a four-run lead held from the beginning by the visitors. The feature of the game was a double by Schwall in the ninth inning, scoring two runs, when Winnetka was lead- ing 4 to 3 Otto Stodeur, Wilmette manager, wasn't present to see his players win their fourth straight victory for their eighth win of the season. Art Braun took charge of the players and hand- led them skillfully. "A crowd of about 400 followers of the national game were on hand to witness the doings and all were satisfied that it was a good game and that Wilmette has an excellent team. . The game opened with Borre pitch- ing for the locals and Robinson at the receiving end. Knox tossed the pill for the losers while Eckhart of- ficiated behind the plate. Winnetka Scores Two Carpenter, first up for Winnetka, was out at first. Kreger was safe on an error and reached second on another miscue. Goody singled and reached second when the ball was thrown to home holding Kreger at third. Eckhart laid a bunt down the third base line. Leis scooped up the ball and threw him out at first. On the throw to first Goody scored. Blow was out at first. -~_Borre doubled in Wilmette's half after two were out but perished at second when De Long flied out, Woods making a good catch in left. Neither side did any damage in the second. In the third Carpenter of the visitors reached first on an er- ror with one down. Kreger advanc- ed him to second with a one-sacker and he scored on Goody's single. With men on second and third Bor- re struck out Eckhart while Blow was out at first, Leis to Raap. A hit and sacrifice hit failed to produce anything in Wilmette's half. No casualties were reported in the fourth inning. Two Runs for Locals In the fifth Carpenter scored again when he reached first on an error, ad- vanced to second on Kreger"s single and scored on Goody's smash for two bases. Air tight playing held Win- netka to a single tally in this inning. In the last half Wilmette opened up rrage. Estes singled to center and reached the keystone sack on Robinson's single. Estes was caught off second, Knox to Goody, but when Raap reached first on an error Robinson scooted to second. Rosberg singled, filling the sacks and here Knox gave the only walk in the game to Schaefer, forcing in Rob- inson with the first run. Raap scor- ed when Rosberg was forced at third on Borre's single. Leis flied out. Schwall's Double Wins Game | The ninth was the big inning for Wilmette. After Winnetka had been disposed of in its half, Robinson, first up, singled and went to second on Raap's third single.
