Dry Condition of Skokie Causes Fire Lack of rain and intense heat has dried up the Skokie, the marsh lying west of the north shore towns be- tween Winnetka and Lake Forest, causing at least a dozen fires within the past week. Sunday afternoon Hubbard Woods was threatened by a fire which reached rather serious proportions and burnt at least forty acres of woods and prairie. The Glencoe fire department found it necessary to build an immense trench nearly a block long and twenty feet wide to prevent the blaze from spreading into the town.
