INDO OR SEASON OPENS | a AT COMMUNITY HOUSE Cubs Visi Whee: White Sox in mr ¥ Inning Tilt By Late Rally; Giants Prove Too Much For Strcng Red Lineup The 1id is off! It was pried off Wednesday even- ing at the Community House when the indoor baseball season opened with victories for the Cubs and Giants. The former beat the White Sox 13-10 in seven stanzas while the 4:1 TAXI SERVICE DAY AND NIGHT Fjellman Bros. HUBBARD WOODS TELEPHONE WINNETKA 1384-83 906 LINDEN AVENUE Giants went the full route to nose out the Reds 17-16. The Cubs counted in the first in- ning but their opponents came right back and annexed three markers. The Cubs tied it up in the second and both sides pushed a run over in the third. Lucchesi lost control of the hall in the fourth and when the "pale sent five men over the plate the game seemed to be "sewed up." Kreger went to the box for the "Bears" in the fifth and allowed one run. In the sixth his team mates scored 4 runs and another brace of 4 the seventh, the while he was holding Cazel's aggregation to a couple of goose eggs. In the fifth inning Kassner landed on the ball so hard that it carried to the "movie coop" hitting a switch and putting the hall in darkness for several minutes. Besides that swat he annexed three additional hits Lucchesi was next with 3 hits and Seigel, Kreger and V. Eckart con- tented themselves with 2° apiece. ARENDT = LADIES' TAILOR AND FURRIER 402-3-4 Heyworth Bldg. 29 E. Madison St., Chicago Cazel fanned eleven of the Cubs dur- ing the combat while only four of his team mates went along the "whiff" route. Melkart, back stop for the Sox, also garnered four clouts. Wood, Fast- man, Odh ahd Voltz are credited with a couple of hits each. .The second game was all in favor of the Giants for the first half the score was reversed for a moment, the ing 14-4. But in the eighth with a batch of errors coupled with a burst of vicor on the part of the Reds the score was reversed for a moment the count at the end of the first half of the inning being 15-14. © But the Giants came back and forged ahead in their half and after the Reds again tied the game up in the ninth the Giants pushed a run over in their half and the game was theirs. The game was a good one at all times. Charlie Dehmlow held the pitching edge over Flossie Voltz and held the Reds easily until the big eighth when the afore-mentioned er- rors upset him for a moment. A big surprise was sprung in that big eighth when John Bethloff connected with the ball for a triple and a double. The surprise came in when it was thought that he wasn't able to see the ball let alone hit it. He sure made the Giants look sick for sev- eral minutes and undoubtedly the opposing hurlers wil remember his ability in future games. ' HANDLES STRIKE CASES Justice Clark T.
