Mr. King reports a total collection of taxes of $450,000, which exceeds last vear"s amount by $124,000--the 1918 amount being $326,000. That this greater sum of collections was all re- ceived and credited within a fifteen- day period, from the time the first bills were mailed and within ten days from the time the last bills were mailed, indicates to some extent the work of the collector and his aides. The great delay in billing for taxes this year was due to the fact that the new state board created by the last' legislature was late in filing its re- turn with the county clerk and made a serious delay in extending taxes in the books. Mr. King extended credit to the First National bank in Wil- mette, declaring that the great vol- ume of business could not have been accurately handled without the ex- cellent facilities of the bank and the aid of its efficient force of experts. Since the stare of the collections, February 24, the days were unusually active for the collector, who was kept busy night and day, seven days a week. Mr. King pointed out that there were probably more questions asked during this collection than any two previous ones, due to the changes in the methods of computing the tax of one-third as formerly. Most of Mr. King's work was di- rected from 'his Wilmette office, but he wos constantly called to various parts of the township on matters per- taining to the tax. One day was spent at the Glencoe State bank to give the residents there an opportunity to arrange their difficulties without going to Wilmette. And now that the job has been com- pleted, Mr. King is planning to take a well deserved vacation. The work was especially trying this year, due to the limited time in which the col- lections were tg be made. Last year the collectors were allowed 30 days POLICE CHIEF GIVES ADVICE TO MOTORISTS W. M. Peterson Urges All North Shore Autoists To Learn of Changes in Motor Laws for 1920 \ The attention of North Shore, and especially Winnetka motorists, has been called by Chief of Police W. M. Peterson to the radical changes in the 1920 vehicle motor laws. Rules governing the rate of speed on boule- vards and in business districts, park- ing regulations, right of way, and all manner of regulations, which prove so costly to the offenders of them, if caught, have been radically altered since last year, declared the chief. In order that motorists may have a fair opportunity to become ac- quainted with the new regulations, in effect since Jan. 1, Chief Peterson has Wilmette Cafeteria 1101 Central Avenue Wilmette, Ill.
