EO ETT O EO EEO ESO 12 " WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 9, 1920 TAKE THE STAGE TO _ ROCKY GULCH TODAY Ouilmette Country Club Committees Busy Formulating Details of Great "Days of '49" Miniature Camp NO PROFITS--JUST FUN Plan Greatest Ccmmunity Frolic in History of Wilmette; Everybody Is Welcome . A committee composed of 325 prom- nent residents of Wilmette makes up the "working force" now engaged in "formulating plans and details of the forthcoming "Days of '49" event to | be staged at the Ouilmette Country club on Friday and Saturday, Novem- ber 12 and 13 for the especial enter- tainment of New Trier residents. The "Days of '49" a life-size re- production of a camp in the western mining country of the famous "gold" era, is not to be conducted for profit but, on the contrary, an affair plan- ned and designed by the Ouilmette Country club members "to develop the pure gold of good-fellowship." Meagher General Chairman Kerry C. Meagher, 716 Central ave- nue, is the directing genius of the wild and woolly presentation as chairman of the general committee. Assisting Mr. Meagher are literally hundreds of leaders in the village, all of whom are assuming important tasks in the shaping of the elaborate details. Many of these workers will have leading dime novel roles in the "Days of '49". Foremost among these will be such characters as "Shimmy" Smithers, hard-boiled proprietor of the "Bucket of Blood" dance emporium, "Coyote Ed" Zipf, "Alkali" Orner, mayor "Scrappy" Kerr, sheriff "Bloody Nose" Bright. Just read what a terribly thrilling and wonderfully exciting time you are to have. Read it in the jargon of the "Days of 49". Yuh Gotta Be Thar "The event will be a miniature camp of the 'Days of 49' with all the trimmin's, with sure enough gold washers, flumes wheels of fortune golden palace of sin, frontier court, pen, chuck-a-luck, frontier court, shooting gallery, hold-ups, crap game, bars, hot-dog cafes, Elrorados, [ |! and many other features and settings. Not forgetting the Bucket of Blood Dance Hall, run by 'Shimmy' Pete Smithers. Red Nell and Calamity Jane promise to bring a lot of jolly girls for the dance hall, coming in by stage from the neighboring gulches. 'Uncle' Kerry Meagher promises to pull off some novelty stunts on the new board walk of Main street, Rocky Gulch. He will be assisted in the midnight deliriums by 'Diamond Tom' Knox and 'Freckle Face' Mort Skinner. "'Denver' Ira Jones, the squarest sport that ever trimmed a sucker, and his forelady, Miss Ida, will run the hash mine. Miss Ida says that no man can shoot good and make a nifty bet on an empty stomach, so there'll be plenty to eat--beans, hard boiled eggs, dough-nuts and sardines for them as likes to eat dainty. Desperadoes There Too "'Slit Ear' Charley Heller is hav- ing a lot of literary signs pasted all over Rocky Gulch, warning folks to keep a pretty sharp look-out for desprit men, as the well known sheep stealer twins, Louis 'Arizona' Clarke and 'Chuck' Sanford Clarke are expected to ride in. A few stray Chinamen may try to sneak in. There ain't been nothin' overlooked for on Grand Time. If you've got any weapons wear them. "There'll be no admission at the door. Just step to the bank, as you break into the Gulch, and ask for a big wad of Bucks. With this Rocky Gulch money you can dance, gamble, win a Kewpie doll, a box of candy, drink, shoot, pay your fine, sip your cider, munch hod dog, or throw poison glances at the suffragettes in the dance emporium. We hope it sounds powerful inviting to the prairie folk round about here and the committees will keep all things booming on November 12 and 13, un- til twelve o'clock past midnight."
