Another writer 'places Wienecke on his All- Cook county team and says of him after praising the qualities of all the other honored players: Wienecke Fullback Selection "To balance the all county eleven a fullback must be had who is a regular caveman, a smashing punish- ment eater who never quits until the entire opposing team is atop him. For that job Wienecke of New Trier is the logical man. Time after time in the game with Oak Park he obeyed the play and ran into Oak Park's strong defense and gained a little here and a little there where the on- lookers prophesied he would be thrown for a loss. Had it not been for Wienecke the Oak Park-New Trier game would have been a run- away. He backs up his line on de- fense like no other fullback in the circuit and puts heart into his fel- lows by smashing through for some gain on almost every trial. He is a leader and a fighter equally skilled in each department." The selection of Wienecke to the county honors is pleasing to his many friends who have watched his progress in football at New Trier. Until this year he was considered a mediocre player. Beginning with the Alumni game of this season in which he assisted greatly in trimming the grads in a 6-0 combat, he improved steadily under the expert tutelage of Coach Snyder until his name was frequently mentioned with that of Steger of Oak Park. The Des Plaines game which prov- ed to be a rout for the farmer lads showed some of "Bob's" stellar ability. In the following game with Bloom at New Trier, when. the visitors tied the count by some splendid forward passing, Weinecke came back strong and carrying the ball in nearly every play was en- abled to defeat Bloom by scoring the necessary touchdown. Saves Day For Team At La Grange the home team out- played New Trier during the first half but early in the second half the north shore players, spurred on by Wienecke, made a 65-yard drive for the only touchdown of the game. In the Oak Park game at New Trier he played a wonderful game and but for an unfortunate collision with one of his teammates, who knocked the ball from his arms as he was crossing the goal line, would have scored the touchdown, which would have won the game. At Deerfield he played the best game of the year. Time and again he carried the ball through the line and added the necessary yards to make first down when all the other players had failed. It was in this game that he was knocked un- conscious but recovered sufficiently to lead the team down the field and Guard Your 'Auto Starting this winter 2 unnecessary cold weather bat- tery troubles. His kick- ing was the gossip of the league at certain games and his hard line smashes made him feared by oppos- ing linemen. Fighting spirit was his chief stock in trade and when once aroused almost invariably meant de- feat for the opposing eleven. Sports- manship was another virtue and for that reason he is one of the best liked athletes in the league. On the All-suburban eleven Captain Kerr of New Trier is placed on the first team and Half-back Bartleman and Quarterback Rand receive honor- able mention. One expert places Kerr at guard on his second All-Cook county selection and Parker, another New Trier play- er, is awarded left end on the same outfit. ROB DEPUTY SHERIFF OF EVEN HIS REVOLVER St. Louis, Mo.--Deputy Sheriff Schulz is toting a new revolver now. A bad St. Louis highway man took his old one away from him. It was late--very late--when the deputy's lodge adjourned, and rain- ing. So the deputy hoisted an um- brella and started homeward with a package under his arm. Suddenly an arm with a revolver at its end swung up under his umbrella. Schulz was at a disadvantage, with the um- brella in one hand and the package in the other, Another revolver press- ed against his back. Then the robbers took his pistol, watch and $25 cash and bade him good night. never being taken out because of in- OHIO PASTOR FLAYS FRAT AS BREEDERS OF SNOBBISHNESS Columbus, O.--A tendency toward materialism and the development of selfishness constitute the two great perils of education, according to the Rev. H. M. LeSourd, Methodist Epis- copal student pastor at Ohio State university . "Materialism is either practical or psychological, or both, and "with it comes the peril that God may drop out of our world of thought and ex- perience," declared Rev. Mr. Le- Sourd. "Get all the science you can and if you can see the working of the hand of God in and through it you need have no fear of materialism. "Snobbishness is developed in the university largely through the frat- ernity. "Not that the fraternity spirit is one of snobbishness, but it is devel- oped by men of small mind and nar- row vision who use this great system of social development for selfish pur- poses. "With education is apt to come a desire to dominate other people, with prosperity and wealth as the goal. The method of reaching the goal of- ten is of no moment and they are apt to ignore the rights of others. "This is the philosophy of a Napo- leon or a Nero who stops at nothing to gain his end. "It is only by service one becomes great and his greatness is gauged by the greatness of his service." In 1919 Canada produced 94,000 mo- tor vehicles. It is estimated that pro- duction this year will be fully 35 per cent greater. TIER ian Ditidr There is no Chrismas gift of more lasting worth than a fine piece of jewelry or silverware.
