Butler Noted medical authority and head physician of North Shore Health Resort dies on train on way home from east; heart attack cause. Funeral services for Dr. George . Butler will be held at 2:30 o'clock aturday afternoon at the First Congregational church of Wilmette. The north shore Wednesday lost one of its most distinguished citizens in the death of Dr. George F. Butler, and was the author of many books and magazine articles on his chosen topic. Several years ago he wrote Butler's "Materia Medica," which for many years was an accepted authority. He contributed to many medical journals and wrote medi- ical advice for popular kK magazines. Dr. George F. Butler head physician of the North Shore Health Resort at Winnetka, who for many years was a practicing physi- cian in Wilmette. Dr. Butler passed away suddenly Wednesday morning on a train near Buffalo, N. 'Y., while returning to Wilmette from Boston where he had been confined in the Peter Bent Crigham hospital following a se- vere heart attack ten days ago. His daughter, Mrs. Percival N. Cutler, 1016 Ashland avenue, was with Dr. "Butler. Dr. Butler became ill while in attendance at a convention of the American Medical association in Boston. Death came unexpectedly when it was thought the distinguished phys- ician was beyond danger and well able to undertake the long journey to Wilmette. Dr. Butler, who was 64 years of age, came to Wilmette in 1905 and prac- ticed there until nn recent years when he assumed duties at the North Shore Health resort. He was for several years Cook County physi- cian. His residence there was inter- rupted by a few years spent at Mudlavia, Atica, Ind., in sanitarium work. Prior to his coming to Chi- cago and Wilmette he resided and practiced medicine at Alma, Mich. Dr. Butler was a recognized au- thority on the sugject of medicine His latest book, only recently off the press and entitled "How the Mind Heals," was received with en- thusiasm by the members of his pro- fession and the general public. He was also a literary critic of distinc- tion his reviews of books and poe- try commanding wide attention in i literary. circles. | Dr. Butler was one of the pioneer members of the Chicago Press Club and was intimately acquainted with leading literary personages who "contributed so "much" to the fame of that notable gathering place of mem- bers of the literary profession. Other leading clubs and societies claimed Dr. Butler as an active mem- ber, including the Cliff Dwellers, the White Paper Club, the Adventurers Club and many other similar organ- izations. Among his other works are, "Love rand its Affinities." "The Isle of Con- | tent," "The Exploits of a Physician Detective," "Sonnets of the Heart," "The Travail of a Soul" Rush Medical College awarded Dr. Butler his M. D. degree in 1889. Since then he has been identified | with the faculties of numerous schools in the middle west. Dr. Butler is survived by his wid- jow, Mrs. Nancy Porter Butler, and a daughter, Mrs. Percival N.
