Gordon, in the chair. The work of the club has been go- ing on during the summer through the various committees. Mrs. Gordon spoke of the excellent work of the Fourth of July committee with Mrs. Suker, chairman. The Hospital Fund committee, Mrs. James Houghteling, chairman, has raised $892 for the Evanston hospital. In addition to this sum one member of the club has given $300 to furnish the sun parlor in the new tower, and another member will furnish the re- ception room. The following announcements were made : The next regular meeting will be October 20, under the direction of the Music committee, Mrs. Jurton At- wood and Mrs. Agatha Haenel will eive a recital. Two performances of the play "The Marionettes", will be given at the club on the afternoon and evening of November 2. Mrs. Lieber's classes in Parliament- ary Law and in Public Speaking will begin next week. Mr. Georges Cauuet will also begin his classes next week in French Lit- erature and French Conversation. A Japanese program is to he given on the evening of December 5, which promises to be very unusual and in- teresting. : The House committee, Mrs. Otis, chairman, has done much work in re- decorating and repairing the club house. One of the many improve- ments was re-decorating the stage and arranging a new system of lighting. The club appropriated $150 toward a scholarship in the Vocational Super- vision l.eague. Mrs. Chickering, chairman of the Fducational committee introduced the speaker of the afternoon, Professor Otto of the University of Wisconsin. His subject was "William James and his Philosophy". The speaker said that most concepts have come to us from abroad but William James has given to the world a new philosophy, "Pragmatism". After the program, tea was Servs ed in the parlors. IMPORTANT TEACHERS' MEET North shore public school superin- tendents and teachers were in session Tuesday at the North Shore Teachers' Institute at New Trier Township High school. Features of the program in- cluded a lecture on "France" by Dr. Samuel N. Watson of Glencoe, special music, directed by Osbourne McCon- athy of the Northwestern University School of Music, and talks on educa- tional topics by leading [llinois edu- cators.
