The ceremony was performed at six-thirty o'clock by Rev. Brewer, was exceedingly well attended, and proved to be most successful. An interesting speaker in the per- son of Herbert Hyde of Chicago, well known and admired for his interest in the growth of music in Chicago, added greatly to the program. Mr. Hyde spoke in behalf of the Civic Music association explaining its use and asking for its financial support from the Winnetka Woman's club. Following the address Mrs. Norman S. Parker, of ILvanston, a talented young woman, played two groups of selections on her violin, accompanied by Mrs. McAdams. Her playing was delightful. Mrs. William D. McAdams, as pianist, played a MacDowell concert Etude and a Debussy Arabesque. Mrs. McAdams showed good tech- nique and played with ease and grace. The sustaining quality of the piano showed up well in the Debussy num- ber and the tone was beautiful. Mrs. Helen Abbott Byfield of Highland Park, who rendered two groups of songs, chose American Folk songs and a group of songs by: composers little known with the ex- ception of Hageman. Mrs. Byfield sings charmingly; and the bit of drama she displayed in several of her numbers was most pleasing. Mrs. Henry F. Dickinson, who accompani- ed Mrs. Byfield played with true musicianship. "Truly, the afternoon was enjoyed thoroughly by everyone. Rl. Many north shore students at Northwestern university attended the annual Junior promenade held last Friday evening in Patten gymnasium. The gymnasium was unusually well decorated in red and black to repre- sent the seventh room in the "Mask of the Red Death." In the center of the ceiling hung a large ball of crys- tal which revolved, throwing vari- colored lights on the dancers. The grand march took place at nine o'clock and was lead by Miss Marian Drew and Mr. Douglas Waitley. Among the patrons and patronesses were President and Mrs. Walter Dill Scott, Dean and Mrs. Roy C.
