WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, AUGUST 12, 1922 NEW REALTY CONCERN SWELL ESTARLSHE Lake Shore Realty Company Opens General Agency in Indian Hill District The Lake Shore Realty company has decided to establish a fully equipped renting and listing office at their branch in the Indian Hill district at Winnetka avenue and Brier street, their new subdivision property just west of the tracks. The Lake Shore Highlands is situat- ed west of the Ridge and south of the Indian Hill Golf club and the Indian Hill Terrace opened east of the Indian Hill Golf club, west of the tracks and south of the Winnetka line. This made it necessary for a representative to be on the grounds at all times. More than 160 lots have been sold in the Highlands and the business sec- tion on Center street in the Indian Hill section is fairly well cleaned. Residence lots, President George P. Manus states, are selling rapidly. Aside from their own investments, the newcomers are now listing houses for sale or rent as well as vacant property in all of the north shore villages. Responsible Management George Bartlett, well known real- tor, whose family name is connected with some of Chicago's largest de- velopments will be active manager for the firm, and David Beehler, a resident of Winnetka, will be quarter- ed with Bartlett. Already consider- able activity has been shown by the | Lake Shore crowd in the method of offering residents fully improved vacant on the new subdivisions. They are being commended upon the stand they have taken regarding restriction which work well with those of neigh- boring villages. : Mr. Bartlett is quoted as saying that the Lake Shore operates more than ten subdivision propositions but this is the only one which will be opened as a general agency. Girl Scouts WHY | AM A GIRL SCOUT. By Dorothy Niiles, Second Lieutenant. Being a Girl Scout means a great deal to each individual girl in our Wilmette Troop. In no other organi- zation that I know of is there such a wide field for varied activities. Personally, the organization means to me both a splendid privilege and a responsibility. I enjoy being a factor in the comradeship which exists be- tween all the Scouts, and I feel that each Scout thinks of our Laws as 1 do: that they are a symbol of splen- did young Womanhood to be daily lived up to. Scouting isn't all so serious tho, and there is an endless lot of fun in our various activities; camping hiking, giving Scout ments, and participating in many very interesting local activities. To go with all our pleasures is the work of be- coming, sometime, a Golden Eaglet, the very highest rank of Girl Scout. Scouting is splendid training for | each and every girl and 1 feel that the Scout Spirit is embodied in our Slogan: "Do a good turn daily." Hall, of this city who heads a staff of experts engaged in surveying air routes and testing inventions essential to the operation of load-carrying types of aircraft. Hall gave a review of the subject today and expressed the belief that the combination of features necessary to make air freighting safe and cheap enough to justify making an establish- ed business of it is now available. Radio telephony, practical aerography, non-inflammable gas which is lighter than air, aluminum alloys to permit lightness in frame-work construction, and the development of aerial naviga- tion--these are a few features which have "arrived" to help make the build- ing of large carriers for heavy loads possible, he asserted. "We have worked for five years on the problem of 'profit and loss' as part of our effort to get airway rates down where business men could see them," said Hall, "and there are three big weaknesses in the large airship which militate against adapting it for sched- uled commercial transportation. "One is that of safety, which is now met by ground communication and fog-flying possibilities through devel- opment of the wireless. Safety is also advanced by the possibility of a non- inflammable levitating gas. There is satisfaction for the Cadillac owner in knowing that in first-cost as well as after- cost, he enjoys the greatest motor car value in the world.
