[ WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, MAY 12, 1923 ga CAMP FIRE DAY HERE ON MAY 19 Winnetha's Groups of Camp Fire Girls Hold Grand _ Ceremonial Saturday TO RECEIVE AWARDS Special Exhibits and Cere- monies Feature Once a year the Winnetka Camp Fire Girls hold their Grand Ceremonial meet- ing in Community House. This annual program is planned for Saturday after- noon, May 19, at 3 o'clock, and all friends of Camp Fire are invited to be present. This is a joint meeting of all groups, nearly one hundred girls, and is similar in character to the ceremonials held in each group several times throughout the year. The girls will be in ceremonial costume, and around the camp fire in the gymnasium they will sing their songs and receive their honors and ranks. Special Speakers Mrs. John Moody, Chief Executive of the Chicago Camp Fire association, will be present and will rank the girls. Dr. Norman E. Richardson, head of the Department of Religious Instruction at Northwestern university will present his class of university students for their Guardians' certificates, and will give the Council Talk. Winnetka friends of Camp Fire will have an opportunity at this time, to catch a further glimpse of the ideals and inspirations of this Camp Fire work which arouses the enthusiasm of so many girls. What Camp Fire Means In this connection it is of interest to note the Camp Fire Laws and what it means to be a Camp Fire Girl. The Camp Fire Law is stated briefly in the following terms: "Seek Beauty--- Give Service--Pursue Knowledge--Be Trustworthy--Hold on to Health--Glor- ify Work--Be Happy." The meaning of Camp Fire may be interpreted in the following paragraphs: To be one of a comradeship of girls, living in every state of the United States, in Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Canal Zone, South America, Eng- land, Scotland, France, India, Tur- key, and many other foreign coun- tries ; To be a part of a large sisterhood which is having good times out-of- doors, cooking over open fires, sing- ing the same songs around camp fires, living the same ideals of work, health, and love, giving the same sort of service to their communities ; To join hands around the world with 150,000 happy girls who are striv- ing to understand one another and to love one another and to accept one another without prejudice, no matter what language they may speak, or in what manner they worship their God or what flag they revere.
