4 WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, MAY 26, 1923 FIFTH GRADERS PRESENT DRAMA Give Remarkable Perform- ance of "Buddha" . Ancient history was made to live vividly at the Skokie school Tuesday afternoon of this week when Greeley school children took their original play, "Buddha," to the Jane Kuppenheimer auditorium and entertained the children of the other schools. The play was a remarkabley finished effort for fifth grade children, who, for forty-five minutes, presented with un- mistakable enjoyment and unaffected simplicity, three vivid scenes in the early life of Buddha. The palace of the Rajah, the street bazaar scene, the oriental dancers, even the snake-charmer, were all there, and Adventure Islanders Win Special Service Awards Eighteen boys were awarded camp emblems at the annual meeting of the Adventure Island camp held at Skokie school Friday evening of last week. The emblems were presented to those boys who have rendered some distinct service to camp, and not for winning competitive events. Two of the boys, English Walling and John Jewell, received their emblems for marked heroism at the time the camp cruiser "Dream Girl" broke from her anchorage and was beached last summer. John Olmsted, representing the sen- ior group, and Billy Isom, the junior group, were selected as the two boys showing the best all round camp spirit, with Alfred Alschuler and Francis Lackner close seconds. The most unusual service was rendered by Jimmy Fleming, who succeeded in finding the three camp sows after the whole camp has searched the island in vain for them. The song, "Adven- ture Island," composed by Whitney Oates, and a camp vell by John Hil- "Daddy," Jackie Coogan Films, Here on June 1 "Daddy," which comes to the Com- munity House, Friday, June 1, is a picture that is said to complete the full revelation of Jackie's extraordi- nary genius. His preceding offering, "Oliver Twist," disclosed Jackie's genius in its tender, pathetic and wist- ful aspects. '"Peck's Bad Boy" re- vealed Jackie and mainly as an im- pish, mischievous, adorable lad; there was grotesque humor in "Trouble," wherein Jackie was a plumber's help- er; but it remained for "Daddy" to bring to light Jackie's capacity for tragedy. Jackie has been proclaimed by emi- nent critics as being one of the great- est actors of all time, regardless of age. "Daddy" will prove it, for in this First National picture Jackie is called upon to sound the lowest depths of tragic despair. It happens in but one scene. In the main the production is devoted to the spirit that animates its ending--happiness. 358 Central Ave. Hichland Park WILLYS KNIGHT and OVERLAND CARS FRANCIS L.
