WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, JUNE 16, 1923 HUGE WALKS JOB FOR KENILWORTH illest fo¥ized Laying of d APpro ely Two Miles _ of Mew Sidewalks iw ZINE "WEST SIDE'IS HELPED JF A 1 Provide "Tor 9,100 Feet of Concrete Walks Almost two miles of concrete walks will be laid in the village of Kenil- worth, by virtue of an ordinance passed last Thursday by the Village board. The improvement will cost the village $18,000 in round figures, but when the system is completed, it will include practically the entire West side of Kenilworth. Agitation for the improvement of sidewalk conditions on the west side began early this spring. The Board of Local Improvements met, drew up a proposed plan, and on May 16 ad- vertised a public hearing for the pro- posal. The hearing was held last Tuesday, two days before the ordi- nance was submitted to the Village board for approval. 9,100 Feet of Walks In exact figures 9,100 feet of con- crete walks will be laid on the West side. The only sections of that part of the track that are not included in the ordinance are parts of block 1 and the subdivision consisting of 4 tier of lots along west Railroad ave- nue and north of Pleasant avenue. The walk plan is so arranged that people living in this section will have access to the walks that will cover the rest of the west side. The ordinance itself is a technical document denoting the grade of ma- terial to be used, the length of time to be allowed for setting, the quality of the material and other things con- nected with the construction of the walks. The cost of the improvement has been estimated as follows: For 9,100 lineal feet of concrete side walks, five feet four inches in width and four and a half inches in thick- ness, $14,560; for 900 cubic yards of cinders for foundations on which to lay the concrete walks, foundations to have an average thickness of six inches, $1,800; for 750 cubic yards of excavation. for walks, including grad- ing and removal of all surplus ma- terial and preparing the subgrade to . -- receive the cinder foundation for the walks, $750; and for all other costs including court costs and the costs of making, levying, and collecting the assessment for the improvement, not in excess of six per cent of the cost of the improvement, $1,026.60. Contracts for the installation of the walks will probably be let within thirty days. BAHAIS ESTABLISH NEW HEADQUARTERS Bahai headquarters are now located in Chicago at 153 N.
