\% WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, JUNE 16, 1923 RAVINIA STARTS SALE OF TICKETS Urges North Shore Residents To Purchase Ticket Books Without Delay ADDRESS OPEN LETTER Cite Advantages of Attend- ance at Operas Accompanying is an open letter ad- dressed to the residents of the north shore by the Ticket Campaign com- mittee of the Ravinia club that should prove of interest to every music lover in New Trier. The letter, which needs no further explanation, reads as fol- lows : ' "T'o Shore." "The town chairmen are reporting a steady increase in the sale of ticket books for admission to Ravinia Park for the coming season but the prospects of exceeding the amount of ticket sales of other seasons is still remote. "For the amount of $15 a book con- taining twenty-one tickets may be pur- chased, one ticket being the premium for the purchase of the book. The regular gate admission is seventy-five cents, the holder of a ticket book pays even less. A gate admission includes everything but a reserved seat in the pavillion on opera nights. 'But on the sides of the pavillion under the lovely trees and the stars with splendid view of the stage (many subscription seats are sold at the great opera houses with less than a half view of the stage) are hundreds of free seats and many well-known music lov- ers can be seen there every night as well as the well-known "tried business man," with his cigar, lounging content- edly on the comfortable benches. Orchestra Concerts the Residents of the North "Monday night are thc concerts by the Chicago Symphony orchestra, one of the first orchestras of the world with soloists form the Ravinia Company and seats for this performance are not re- served but are free to the holder of gate admission, less than seventy-five cents for a concert of the highest standard. Now, Mr. and Mrs. North Shore Resi- dent you have often paid more than that to hear a third rate carnival band, haven't you? "Let the committee plan a perfect holi- day for you, either a Saturday or a Sunday and an inexpensive one. If not there is a Casino inside of the grounds where sodas and light lunches may be had low prices. Then after supper go back to the side seats by the pavillion, you will be early enough to find good ones, and after a short rest in the wood- ed twilight you will hear the murmer- ings of the instruments, the lights will come on, the crowds will pour through the gates, the overture will begin and the curtain will go up on the grand opera, the kind you would hear at any great opera house in the great cities of the world.
