Clinnin Guest of Honor at New Headquarters is DRIVE 'MEMBERSHIP a ty Houssholders Asked to Help Furnish Room Tuesday evening of this week was a memorable time in the annals of Winnet- ka, Post No. 10, of the American Legion, because it marked the entry of the leg- ionnaires into their new headquarters at Community House, General V. Clin- nin, distinguished World War leader and a resident of Glencoe, was the guest of 'honor and speaker, and the ex-fighters turned out in full force to greet him and celebrate the opening of their permanent home at the center. Davies Wins Plaudits Featuring the evening's program was a brief talk by J. W. F. Davies, direc- tor of Community House, who formally turned -over the new headquarters to the post, expressing the compliments and good wishes of the Community House board of governors and advising the legionnaires that the room was their very own, to be fitted out by them and put to the purposes they desired. His remarks brought a rousing response of cheers from the veterans. General Clinnin delivered a stirring address on the true aim of the Amer- ican legion, pointing out the fact that the fight for the national bonus was not the important work, but quite incidental to the service rendered the disabled and unfortunate veterans, and the Amer- icanization enterprises of the organiza- tion. Welcome New Members In addition to the program, there was a brief business meeting at which the ---- report of the recent legion dance was received and members were urged to pay ~their annual dues. : "Post Commander Lynch urged every member to engage actively in the cur- rent membership campaign, since it is 'especially desirable, now that the legion ed a member of the Library board in 1894 and served continuously in that capacity until the time of his death. He was president of the board for several terms. Mr. Oldfather is widow, and a daughter, Barlow. Mrs. Mary A. Fisher Victim of Pneumonia Mary A. Fisher, wife of Ira S. Fisher, 638 Ash street, passed away at her residence Thursday evening, January 10, following an illness which extended from Christmas day when she contracted pneumonia. Mrs. Fisher was born on Prince Ed- ward Island, Canada, and was the only surviving member of a family of twelve children. Services are to be held this after- noon at 2:30 o'clock from the resi- dence and burial will be at Memorial Park. Surviving Mrs. Fisher are her hus- band, two sons, Richard F. Fisher, of Manitoba, Canada, and Edwin G. Fisher, of Winnetka, and a daughter, Miss Laura E.
