Editor, Winnetka Talk: In your issue of January 25, there appeared a letter from "A Mother" in regard to the motion pictures shown at the Community House and the Skokie school. She is entirely correct in her statement about the care exer- cized in the selection of the films shown at the Community House. It is often difficult to secure desirable films without permitting the distribu- tors to include some undesirable ones in the contracts. It has happened that we have been unable to secure cer- tain films because of our unwilling- ness to accept 'others which we deem to be below our standard. For ex- ample, from a list of fifty-seven pic- tures recently submitted to us by one of the leading film distributors we have rejected all but six. Our aim is to furnish the community wholesome entertainment through the use of pic- tures without developing a clientele of "movie fans" who make it a habit to attend picture shows with such frequency as to crowd other forms of recreation out of their lives. Until the opening of the new hall in Community House, pictures could be given only once each week, which «did not seem to be quite adequate to meet the demand for this type of en- tertainment. We have endeavored for more than a year to have matinee per- formances for the children, and during the greater part of last year matinees were given on Friday afternoons. This plan was resumed last fall as often as it could be arranged. Since the new hall has been available, per- formances have been given at 4:15 every Tuesday and Friday. In view of the suggestion contained in the letter referred to, it will be an- nounced at once that the matinees will begin promptly at 4 o'clock. The interest in the motion pictures shown by this mother is very much appreciated and other suggestions or constructive criticism will always be welcome. Burton H. Mr. Nelson's note to the editor of Winnetka Talk reads: "Please have attached printed in the "Winnetka Talk as I have sent the com- munication to the Village council and am awaiting an answer." The letter addressed to the Village council reads: To the President and the Village Council of the Village of Winnetka, Illinois. I notice by the "Winnetka Talk" that the Village council was ordered by the Circuit court to approve the Rosewood Subdivision plat. Also that special counsel has been em- ployed and that the village has or- dered an appeal taken. Is it not a fact that several other Judges of Cook county, have held it is the duty of the Village to approve plats such as that of the Rosewood Subdivision and that the Village Attorney had advised the Council that under the law, it was your duty to approve said plat. Under the circumstances, being a tax-payer, will you kindly inform me why the taxpayers of Winnetka are being burdened with all of this litiga- tion and special attorneys. The time is propitious for soon there will be no site available. I know of no medium so valuable as your paper to inaugurate this movement, which should be started without delay and full credit be given you. I am not a church member, but do not believe it would be a hard task to make me one. Neither am I endowed with this world's goods but would start a subscription with $250.00, also subscribe for a like amount in Bonds. One hundred such subscrip- tions would mean $50,000.00. Two hun- dred subscribers would mean $100,000.00. Twenty-five dollars per year from 100 members would mean $2,500.00 to be added to the collections toward mainte- nance.
