WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, JUNE 7, 1924 KITE TOURNEY HERE SATURDAY School Children to Compete in Events Preparations are rapidly nearing completion for Winnetka's first an- nual Kite Flying tournament to be held Saturday morning, June 14, be- ginning at 9 o'clock at the Skokie Playfield under auspices. of the Win- metka park board. Scores of school children are ex- pected to compete in the various events which are classified according to grades. As a special feature the park board has decided that the seventh and eighth grade winner of the kite flying the highest in 15 minutes will be awarded a Junior golf membership in Playfield for the current season. Prizes and medals are to be award- ed for each event and should the tour- nament prove successful, it will be made an annual event. Rules for the tournament have been prescribed as follows: All kites must be made and flown by the owner. A kite will be considered to fly if, after once up, it can be flown from a standstill position. All 'entrants must be school pupils residing in Winnetka. "Girls can compete as well as boys. " There will be three classes and awards will be made in each class. i: The ' Junior class will include all grades up to and including sixth grade. "The Intermediate class will include the seventh and eighth grades. The Senior class will include all grades above the eighth gerade. 'There will be no charge for entrants or for spectators. All entries should be mailed at least one week before the tournament to the Winnetka Park Board Kite Tourn- ament Committee, stating the name of entrant and grade in school. [If a group of pupils enter one kite, the names of each of the group should be stated on the entry. Little Girl Is Severely Hurt in Fall from Tree Betty White, small daughter in the home of Mr. and Mrs. James A. White, 1341 Tower road, was severely injured Tuesday afternoon of this week when she fell from a tree-house while at plav in a neighbor's yard. The little girl injured her back so severely she was taken to the Evans- ton hospital. It was stated late this week that her condition was some- what improved. Wil. 2403 SKOKIE CLUB TO HAVE BIG TENNIS ACTIVITY The Chicago Junior tennis cham- pionships, fostered by the Chicago Daily News, will be played in Chicago starting June 11. The North division, composed of Evanston, Wilmette, Win- netka, Glencoe and the other north shore villages will play at the Skokie Country club. The Skokie Country club has se- cured the Illinois State Tennis cham- pionship matches for 1924 to be played July 14 to 20, and word has been re- ceived to enter William T. Tilden, II, and B. I. C. Norton. The tennis committee of the club expects that at least 4 or 5 of the 10 ranking players will be in the tournament. During July and August the North Shore Lawn Tennis league will play inter-club matches. The league is composed of Onwentsia club, Exmoor Country club, Skokie club, Indian Hill club, Winnetka Tennis club, Ouil- mette Country club, Evanston Coun- try club, club. Duncan, Ar- thur Dole, Jr., Clarence T. MacNeille, Harry R. Kimbark and Maurice S. Miller, the chairman. Winnetka Youth Receives West Point Appointment _Daniel W. Kohlsaat, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. B. Kohlsaat of 341 Woodland avenue, Winnetka, has received word from the Secretary of War that as the result of examinations taken in March, 1924, he has been found to be mentally and physically qualified for admission to the United States Mil- itary Academy at West Point.
