14 WINNE TK A TALK October 3, 1925 SAYS HOME BANKING SPELLS PROSPERITY Henry R. Hale Says Savings Ac- counts in Home Bank Are Asset to Community By HENRY R. HALE (President, Winnetka State Bank) When you invest your money in a savings account with a strong bank located in your own community you are benefiting yourself in two ways; | you have profitably because and first, safely your money invested, to the prosperity of your community. The first benefit is, of course, per- fectly obvious to everyone. People never get rich from their own efforts entirely but it is the interest men get from their savings and investments that has much to do with their financial | independence and success. From the standpoint of ordinary business sense it requires little argu- ment to prove that no man can do himself justice in any line of work who is constantly confronted with the pos- | sibility of finding himself facing prac- tical poverty should sickness or some other disaster, which may overtake any one at any time, put even a temporary end to his earning power. As a matter of fact, thrift and eco- nomy have been the foundation of every genuinely successful career since civilization began, and without them no undertaking can properly succeed, vet their importance cannot be emphasized too often or at too great length, espec- ially in the minds of young people who are so prone to forget the future in the keen enjoyment of the present. It is a little difficult perhaps to see the connection between one's money in a local financial institution and the community's prosperity but neverthe- less it is a very important fact. Occasions are constantly arising when the community must look to its banks for financial support and here is should and | second, because you are contributing | | | |all of "29, Zeta Beta Tau; Gus Koepke, | be remembered that the amount of accommodation which a bank is able to extend depends upon the volume of deposits with which it is favored. The more liberally it is favored by the de- posits of the people of the community, the better position it is in to further their best interests. It will thus be seen that from the standpoint of sound judgment as well as local pride, the banks in one's own home community should be those in which to deposit surplus funds and transact other features in banking, especially if local institutions afford every feature of strength and security and advantage in the matter of service that can possibly be afforded by any financial institution anywhere. Both the bank and the community need each other and should do every- thing in their power to co-operate so as to assure the fullest measures of success to all concerned.
