oo 9 4 a EERIE foils ---- a R= eer October 3, 1925 WINNETKA TALK 35 ADD 13 NEW TEACHERS TO NEW TRIER ROSTER Work of Secondary School Started With Best Organiza- tion In Its History Thirteen new instructors were added to the faculty of New Trier Township High school this year, bringing the total number of teachers at the sec- | ondary school to 77, or two more than comprised the staff in 1924-25. This information from the high school executive offices also adds the interesting bit of news that three of the faculty members are former stu- dents of the school. Enrollment statistics at this fall indicate an increase of about 70 students over the attendance last year, but the increase has been ab- sorbed into the school population in such a way as to require the services of but additional two teachers, ac- cording to Superintendent Frederick E. Clerk. "The work of the school," Superin- tendent Clerk states, "has started with the best organization the school has ever had. We went through a regular program of classes the first day and held regular recitations the second day. The re-organized scheme of reg- istration which classified students in June for the coming year seems to save us a matter of several days in getting school started in the fall." Instructors added to the faculty roster this term are: - Aveline G. Kent, department of Eng- lish; F. D. Frisbie, John M. Nay and Emelyn Waltz, History department; Lucille Brady, Latin department; Lil- lian Kroll and Ruth B. Sinclair, library; Walter J. Achenbach, Jr, Dorothy King and Clarence Minnema, mathematics; Mrs. Winnifred S. Downing, music; May P. Fogg, and Mrs. Virginia B. Pope, physical educa- tion. : Of the new teachers Emelyn Waltz, Dorothy King and Mrs. Pope are former students at New Trier. Mr. Aschenbach is also head coach of football. the school | Nursery School Has Ideal Location for Its Effective Work The Community Nursery school has leased the small house, remodeled by Vanhorn, at 769 Locust street for school quarters and a school home for Director Corinne Fitzpatrick. The roll of the school is almost completed, of children ranging from 3 to 5 years of | age, who will attend from 9 to 11:30 | o'clock each morning beginning Oc- | tober 5. | The idea has been to equip a small | home entirely for children, affording |them opportunity for both directed and | free activities in hand crafts, manual | training, nature-study, music, French, |out-door games and free play. The school has a tiny craft-shop, manual training shop, play room, attic for rainy days, playground, and is near the fields and woods. The school building will be used later for afternoon clubs for those children who have already progressed to other schools. It has been equipped by gifts from parents interested in the work and the year's staff will be made up later on from Winnetka mothers displaying aptitude for the work.
