WINNETKA TALK Music Detarimen t Announces Recital by Gifted Artists Miss Irma Goebel and Mrs. Louise Winter will give a recital for the Win- netka Woman's club Tuesday, October 27. Miss Goebel, the pianist on the program, has studied with several fa- mous teachers, among whom were the Swiss pianist, Edwin Fischer; the com- poser, Franz Schrecker; Alexander Raab, Sigismund Stojowski of New York, and Harold Bauer. While in Europe she toured Greece and part of Germany, where she received among other press notices, the following: Athens, Greece, Script--""A most sym- pathetic pianist whom the audience recalled repeatedly." Berlin, Germany, Die Neue Zeit-- "Technically and extremely adroit and skillful pianist, who plays with the clearest feeling for musical form and phrasing." Louise Winter, the soprano, is a pupil of Karleton Hackett, critic for the Chicago Evening Post; the late David Bispham, and Madame Valerie of New York. She sang recently for the Chicago Musicians' Club of Wom- en, and has appeared several times as soloist with the Little Symphony or- chestra. Ruth Miller in the Chicago Tribune states, "Her enunciation is ex- cellent and interpretively she is an ex- pert musician. The voice has power and volume and she exhibits great skill and intelligence in the use of her natural vocal endowments." GOING TO CHURCH COUNCIL Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Richards will leave immediately after the Sunday morning service to attend the National Council of the Congregational church in Washington, D. C. On her way home Mrs. Richards, will visit her par- ents in New York, and Elizabeth Rich- ards at Wellesley college. Congregation Discusses Its Place in Community "The Idea and Value of the North Shore Congregation" will be the sub- ject of discussion for the Jewish con- gregation Friday evening, October 23. The Friday evening services are held in the Glencoe Masonic temple at 8:15 o'clock. The religious school of the congrega- tion has started sessions with a total enrollment of 247 pupils. A group of Winnetka members of the Southern Woman's club, among whom were Mrs. George Karnes, Mrs. John Gordon, and Mrs. Henry Cary- Curr, and Mrs. Harvey Pardee, attend- ed the opening reception Thursday, Oc- tober 9, at the Auditorium hotel. Mrs. Louis Hall is president of the organ- iation. The musical program was given by Frances Carey-Libbe, dramatic contralto, Margaret Libbe, lyric so- prano, and Mazie O'Dell Cardy, ac- companist.
