nm ----_--_|__ October 17, 1925 WINNETKA TALK 31 Municipal Notes BY THE VILLAGE MANAGER INSURANCE RATES IN WINNETKA A recent inspection of fire protection in Winnetka made by the National Board of Underwriters for the Chi- cago Board of Underwriters has re- sulted in an improvement in the rating of the Village of Winnetka for fire insurance, the Village being advanced from the eighth class to the fifth class. This change in rating has resulted in an approximate reduction of 19 per cent in insurance rates on brick busi- ness buildings and about 12 per cent on frame business buildings. i As regards to business property, | Winnetka is in the same class as La Grange, Chicago Heights, and Wil- mette, suburbs of medium size with reasonably good fire protection facili- ties. By making certain recommended improvements in the fire department, it will be possible for the Village to move up to the fourth class, with Evanston and Oak Park. Some of these improvements are now under contem- plation by the Village council. It should be understood, however, that these improvements will affect only the rate on business property. As far as residential property is con- cerned, Winnetka is now in the same class as Chicago, Evanston and Oak Park, namely, Class "A," and is re- ceiving the lowest insurance rates on residential buildings which it is pos- sible to secure with any type of pro- tection.
