40 WINNETKA TALK October 17, 1925 MA TRIMS DAUGHTER IN HOCKEY CONTEST Winnetka Field Hockey Team 'Defeats Country Day Entries by 1 to 0 Score "Rah! Rah! Rah! Ma! Ma! Ma! Winnetka, Winnetka, Winnetka!" In a spirited and hotly contested battle the Winnetka Women's Hockey team vanquished the first and second girls' hockey teams of the North Shore Country Day school on their home field Thursday afternoon. When the final whistle blew the score was 1 to 0 in favor of the women, some of whom had daughters as old as the girls they vanquished. A large audience divided its sympathies between the school team and. the women's team, which included several of the school faculty in its ranks. The women's team included the fol- lowing members: Mrs. Robert Brown, Mrs. Paul Starr, Mrs. Dow Harvey, Miss Marian Montgomery, Mrs. Thom- as Hearne, Miss Helen Davis, Miss Dorothy Klotz, Mrs. Henry Tenney, Miss Margaret Boyden, Mrs. Thomas McLaren, and Mrs. Louis Taylor. The Country Day school's first team entered the field at the beginning of the game and played the first half. The second team played the second half against the victors, but in spite of being fresh and showing a little more speed than the first team they were unable to score against their older opponents. This is the first game the two teams have played together this year, but other games will be played regularly, it was announced. Hockey fans assert that the game is gaining favor in this country and es- pecially in the Middle West. MUSIC CLUB MEETS The Winnetka Music club held its first meeting of the season at the home of Mrs. Asa Cooley, who entertained the members at luncheon. A business meeting preceded the following pro- gram: v A group of European Folk Songs-- Mrs. Wm. G. Thrall. Violin -- American and European group of Folk Songs --Mrs. William Sherman Hay. Mrs. Ring. 1s now visiting friends in Rye, League of Women Voters The second Monday of the month is League of Women Voters' day in Winnetka, and it was evident last Monday that a good proportion of Winnetka women knew it. The league's first meeting of the year had such an attendance, that the hall would hardly accommodate the assemblage. The luncheon committee, under the able leadership of Mrs. Leslie Gooder and Mrs. W. H. Nichols, had 65 lunch- eons provided, but by some slight off hand, managed to serve the 86 women who came. And after luncheon, still more women came, and more chairs were carried into the hall so that the audience for the meeting numbered at least 100. Mrs. Morris Greeley, first vice-presi- dent, presided, and made the announce- ments. Mrs. William G. Hibbard, fourth regional director of the National League of Women Voters, spoke of the citizenship school to be held at the University of Chicago the coming week. Mrs. Harrison, fourth regional secretary, told of the work of the league and particularly of its work for the World Court. Mrs. Greeley then turned the meeting over to Mrs. Arthur Cushman, chairman of the education committee of the Winnetka league, who was in charge of the day. The meeting was conducted with such dispatch, that in spite of the crowd, the luncheon was served at 12:30, and all this preliminary part of the meeting was over at 1:15 o'clock and Mrs. Cushman introduced at once the speaker of the day, Prof. Arthur G. Terry of Northwestern university. Professor Terry reviewed briefly the most important of the international discussions and decisions since the war. He spoke of the position of Germany, the dickerings over the Ruhr, the Chinese and Japanese dispute over Shantung, the international debt sit- uation, and the work of the Dawes commission. When he concluded his talk, his interested audience asked one question after another until the presiding officer announced time for adjournment at 2 o'clock. Give Initial Chamber Concert Sunday, Oct. 25 The Muenzer Trio will present the program at the first concert of the North Shore Chamber Music series, which will be held Sunday afternoon, October 25, at 4 o'clock at Kenilworth.
