The first part of the meeting was held in the Assembly room in Community House where all three troops met. "Chief" Davies rapidly outlined the plans for the evening, then the differ- ent troops went to other rooms. Here the scoutmaster of each troop gave a talk on the plans for the coming year. At 8:20 o'clock the troops again met in the Assembly room where Dr. George Eisenbrand led them in an O'Grady drill down. Bob Reschke won it after'a hard fight with Jimmy Fleming. The First Class Scouts then had a meeting to take up advance Scout work. It was decided that the next meeting would be devoted to signal- ing practice. They were then dis- missed. A meeting of the Second Class Scouts was held to determine what points should be given for different branches of Scout work, such as, hiking, camping, sleeping out-of-doors, and so forth. Next week a list of Scouts enrolled in the three troops and also the point system will be published. Among the Winnetka women at- tending the delightful musicale given by the Southern Women's club at the Woman's City club Thursday after- noon, were Mrs. George Karnes, Mrs. Henry J. Cary-Curr, Mrs. Edgar Foster and Mrs. William FEckholls. ---- Mrs. Warren W. Shoemaker opened her home Friday of last week for a tea for the teachers and the room chairmen of the Hubbard Woods school. Tuesday Lecture Series The announcement of a new series of Tuesday morning lectures to be given by the Rev. James Austin Rich- ards of the Winnetka Congregational church will, it is felt, be received with pleasant anticipation by many Win- netkans. For several years these courses have been enjoyed not only by members of the church but by people from many different groups in the vil- lage. Mr. Richards has a happy faculty for presenting religious truths in a way to interest and inspire either church members or others, those who have heard him assert. The subject of the present series of lectures is "The Message of the Prophet Jeremiah to Twentieth Cen- tury Life." It will bring to light many surprising analogies between those times and our own, it is explained. Anyone in the village is most welcome, it is announced, and there is no charge for the lecture which will be given at 10 o'clock on Tuesday mornings, be- ginning November 3, in the Neigh- porhood room of the Community riouse.
