November 14, 1925 WINNETKA TALK HUBBARD WOODS WILL HAVE OWN ICE RINK Organize Skating Club and Se- cure Co-operation of Park Board and Civic Groups Plans for converting the Hubbard Woods Station park into an ice rink for use this winter are going forward with the aid of a recently formed or- ganization known as the Hubbard Woods Skating club. The organizing committee which took the first steps toward making the rink a reality is composed of Stanley P. Farwell, L. H. Waidner, Mrs. Charles E. Burk- hardt, Harry A. Bumbaugh, Thomas R. Adams, Arthur Fischer and J. Roy West. The Winnetka Park board has ap- propriated $500 to be used in leveling the ground to make it suitable for a rink, on the condition that the resi- dents of the vicinity pay for the up- keep. The Village has agreed to donate the water needed, and local carpenters, headed by C. R. Scrim- geour, have agreed to contribute a shelter house for the skaters. It is expected that lumber and other mate- rials will also be donated by business men of the district. Will Employ Attendant The site is admirably adapted for a skating rink as it is large and com- paratively level, and is lighted on all sides by the new ornamental lighting system which borders the park. It is the plan of the club to employ a man full time at the rink. He will take care of the ice, sprinkling it every day so that the surface as kept smooth, and will maintain order at the rink. Hubbard Woods residents have long wanted a skating rink in the vicinity and last year petitioned the Winnetka Park board to build one, but the board was unable to do so at that time be- cause of lack of funds. All organiza- tions in the district are in favor of the rink, it is said, and are co-oper- ating with the new club. The old Winnetka Skating club has contributed some of its equipment and the Hub- bard Woods Improvement association is 'assisting in the work, as are also OU will find that most of the pretty girls you know are : wise enough to drink plenty of + milk--are "regular -milk-maids" lin fact. A special committee from the Park board, composed of Carl Zeiss, Sidney Wellbeloved and Arlan' W. Converse, has been appointed to meet with the organizing committee to work out the plans. Funds Coming In Considerable money has been pledged, it is said, but more is needed. All residents of Hubbard Woods are invited to join the Skating club. Subscription memberships cost from $10 to $100. Family and regular memberships are $5 and Junior mem- berships are $2. Further information may be obtained from any member of the organizing committee, members of which can also receive money for memberships and subscriptions. The committee hopes to get the immediate support of all residents, as the skating season is rapidly approach- ing and considerable work on the rink has yet to be done. Among other interesting features planned for this winter are hockey, fancy skating, | and other sporting events. The Daughters of the Nile will hold their next ceremonial on Friday, No- vember 13, at the Garrick Theater building, Chicago, at 1:30 o'clock, in the afternoon. MRS.
