ST ---- 22 WINNETKA TALK November 14, 1925 Set "Golden Rule" Date for Special Aid to Near East For the third consecutive year, the thoughts of the people of more than a score of Christian nations will be turned to the East on Golden Rule day, December 6, but not since its inception has this commemoration of the needs of the stricken children of the Bible lands borne such deep signif- icance nor such a poignant appeal for relief, according to Frank O. Lowden, Chicago chairman for Near East Relief. "There issues now a new Macedon- ian cry from the lips of babies--in- nocent little ones who are the victims of the seemingly endless succession of conflicts in that breeding spot of war, the Near East," he continues. "The innocents are left in the wake of the Greek and Bulgar batallions. Hundreds of orphans are added to the already long toll in Syria as the Druse and the French battle; little ones are left by the roadside in Mosul, the an- cient Chaldea, the usual aftermath of a Turkish raid upon followers of Christ. "So the cry now comes not to the Apostle Paul as did the first Macedon- ian call go up, but to his latter day disciples, the Christian peoples of the world who on December 6, will recall the plight of their less fortunate breth- ren in Palestine, Syria, Armenia, Mes- opotamia and the refugee camps of Greece. In those desolate and war- ridden districts there are more than 300,000 children who need not only the thoughts of people on this side of the ocean but also their material aid. "So, by recommendation of the Pres- proclamations of edicts of mayors and by exhortations of ministers, Sunday, December 6, will be observed fittingly in this commu- nity and all others, not only by attend- ing church and civic exercises but by contributing generously from the bounteous stores of this world's goods, cash, with which the American has Lbeen so generously endowed."
