a ---- November 21, 1925 WINNETKA TALK 35 Carrie Goodchild, Formerly Teacher Here, Passes Away Word has just been received of the | death of Mrs. Carrie S. Goodchild, former Winnetka school teacher, at Wakefield, Kansas. Mrs. Goodchild taught in the Winnetka public schools for 25 years and occupied a prominent place in the early community life here. Many tributes to her memory have been paid by those who knew her. "Well educated, endowed with a fine intellect, she had many friends among those to whom the intelectual side appealed," says a friend, in a tribute to Mrs. Goodchild. "Linked with this was a keen sense of humor, which is one of the strongest means of making life worth living, and with the humor went a love for the world and for her fellow beings which made her near and dear to many hearts." When Mrs. Goodchild first came to the village she taught in the high school grades of the public school. When a regular high school was start- ed her work was confined to the eighth grade of the grammar school. Many residents of the village will re- call having been in her class. She was a great favorite with the chil- dren. Frank C. Brown and his daughter, Miss Margaretta Brown, have moved from Highland Park to their new home at 1035 Pine street. Mrs. Joseph Husband of Blackthorn road is Mr. Brown's daughter. --Q-- Among those witnessing the Pic- torial pageant at Wanamaker's in New York City, was Mrs. Harry Holland of 679 Hill road. The exhibit, it was stated, depicted the growth of New York, and the future city, in murals of historical scenes and city planning. His subject is to be "Co- operation in Agriculture." Mr. Sapiro | is a brilliant and eloquent speaker on | contemporary economic problems. He | is well known for his reorganization of the cotton and tobacco industries in | this country, and of the wheat in- | dustry in Canada. He is closely allied, it is stated, with Hoover at Washing- ton, and has been exceedingly active in the recent railroad rate-making ad- justments. This will be an open meeting, and the men of the community are es- pecially invited to attend. AT ARDEN SHORE MEETING Mrs. Marcus Richards, Winnetka chairman of the Arden Shore associa- tion, Mrs. Norman Harris, Mrs. Edwin Keeler, and Mrs. W. A. Lamson were among those attending the annual meeting of the Encampment associa- tion held in the tea room of Carson, Pirie, Scott and company all day Fri- day. At that time, reports of the year's activities were read by Miss Anna Belle Ferrier, camp superintendent, and the chairmen of committees. HOLD THANKSGIVING SERVICE The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Winnetka, will hold a Thanksgiving service next Thursday at the Win netka Masonic temple. The subject of the lesson-sermon will be "Thanks- giving." --(-- Miss Christine Baumann of 279 Lin- den avenue, spent last week-end at Princeton, Ill, attending the Skolund- Smith wedding.
