Cleaning -- Pressing -- Repairing SCHULTZ & NORD The North Shore's Leading Tailors 1152 Central Avenue Phone Wilmette 320 "SNOW WHITE" A PLAY FOR WHOLE COMMUNITY New Trier High School Dramatic Club to Present Unique Pro- duction This Saturday By OBSERVER Saturday, February 6, the play, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," will be given by the New Trier Dramatic club. There will be two performances, the first at 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon, and the second at 8 o'clock the same evening, at the New Trier auditorium. To the first per- formance at 2:30 o'clock, all the eighth grade children of the township are invited as guests of the Dramatic club. This play, by Jessie Braham White, is the dramatized version of the well- known fairy tale, and, contrary to ordinary plays, it is arranged in six scenes, instead of in acts. Indeed, "Snow White" .is far from being ordinary in many other aspects other than in its arrangement. In the first place, it is well to forget this mis- taken idea which so many people have, that a dramatized fairy tale will be too simple and childish to possess good plot. Few plays are as difficult to pre- sent as "Snow White." The Fairy tale offers numberless: opportunities for beautiful effects, comical situations and dramatic climaxes. Above all, it presents romance with its loveliest ideals, as people like to think of it. Story of Great Beauty Everyone remembers how Snow White, the most beautiful person of seven lands, was badly treated by her step-mother, banished from the palace, lost herself in the forest and then found herself again, so to speak, in the home of the seven dwarfs; how her step-mother, jealous of her | wondrous beauty, endeavored by va- rious wicked charms learned from Witch Hex, to kill Snow White and was frustrated in her evil plans; and finally, how Snow White returned to life and to the palace and lived hap- pily ever after with her prince. With so many magic charms to be perform- ed, there are several very great mystic bits of action, in which the magic is worked right before the spectator's very eyes. The seven dwarfs furnish jolly comedy and the palace scenes give splendor to the production, for in them, both settings and costumes are gorgeous. The music for the play will be played by the New Trier junior orchestra, and directed by Miss Susan- nah Armstrong. The song of the truthful mirror will be sung from back-stage by Catherine Bickman. All the music was written especially for the play by Edmond Rickett and accordingly, is published with script. Properties Made at School The settings and properties, many of them, have been made by the stage craft class. To Bob Cressy is due much of the credit for the clever and skillful lighting effects. The costumes, exotic in their true fairy splendor, will be furnished by the same costumer who so ably costumed the actors for "Robin Hood" and other more recent New Trier productions. It would be a punishment to any child to be kept from seeing "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" on Sat- urday. That statement includes each and every "grown-up" in the town- ship, for at heart, they cherish the dear old fairy tales even more than do those children of fewer years. On no account should any youngster miss the play, and for parents or big brothers and sisters to fail to see it, would be quite as great a misfortune. Their deliveries can always be depended on and I know she will be pleased with their quality and prices. r= ] I just called Mrs. Happy and she said the meat she ordered hadn't come, so we'll probably be a little late with dinner, Careful. If we ever want dinner promptly the butcher is usually late in his deliveries. PETERS MARKET
