But new Trier hall was again crowded to the walls with an enthusiastic audience of north shore music lovers. It was the fifth concert season of the New Trier Township orchestral association. It took place on Tuesday evening, Feb- ruary 9. George Dasch and his sym- phony players were in the best of ar- tistic condition. The first number presented to this appreciative congregation was the overture, "Fingal"s Cave" by Mendels- sohn, well known and melodious and deserving of its long life of 95 years, the original score being dated "Rome, 1830." The composition was inspired in Mendelssohn's brain by a visit to To buy or sell prop- erty successfully, avail yourself of the ad- vantages of consulta- tion with : T 6 SMAGOLEE 1580 Sherman Evanston. Ill the basaltic cavern on the island of Staffa, just off the coast of Scotland. Following this very acceptable num- ber came two movements from Beetho- ven's 7th symphony. It seems almost immodest to pass any remarks upon the work of this great composer. The writer can only say that he enjoyed the two movements. The playing of the artists on the platform was ex- pressive and vital. The closing selection in the first part of the program brought out the eve- ning's soloist, William Beller, a pianist of very pleasing presence and unusual facility. He presented a Spanish Rhap- sody for piano and orchestra by Liszt, the transcription being done by the noted pianist, Ferrucio Busoni. The composition demanded extraordinary technical ability, and the pianist met the demand in full. One of his most appreciated traits was the flexibility and fluency of his playing. Two encores were enthusiastically received. The second half of the program com- prised a serenade by Leo Weiner and two productions by Tschaikowsky, in- cluding the celebrated Marche Slave. The next concert will take place on Tuesday, March 23. Hold Up Kenilworth Man And Take Jewelry, Cash While on his way home from work Wednesday evening of last week, John Cuckheisen, postmaster of Kenilworth, was held up by two men and robbed of a diamond ring and a pin, valued at $200 together, and $300 in cash. The robbery occurred at Railroad and Lin- den avenue, on the outskirts of the vil- lage. The men also took from Cuck- heisen a paper containing the combina- tion of the safe at the postoffice. They escaped in an automobile. INFANT SON DIES John Ferraro, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ferranro, died at their Glen- coe home Friday, February 5. WINNETKA BUILDING NEWS Vol. 1 Winnetka, Ill.
