April 10, 1926 WINNETKA "TALK Returning Voyagers Have Eventful Passage Home A letter from New York to our desk brings news of the return to America of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Yates of Winnetka, and of their eventful and stormy voyage across the Atlantic on the Mauretania. Upon receiving an S. O. S. from a sinking freighter, the ship broke all of her own speed rec- ords making 29 knots on hour in an endeavor to reach the wreck, but ar- rived to find that another ship nearer by had picked up the crew. The Mauretania resumed her course to New York arriving there minus part of her forward rails, and with pilot house and bygidge damaged in the storm of March the 31, when two large waves went entirely over the ship compelling the captain to reduce his speed. Don Yates, who attends Thorp Mili- tary academy, met his father and mother at the dock and returned with them to their home at 610 Ash street, Friday. Postpone High School Parent-Teacher Meeting Owing to a conflict of dates the final New Trier High school Parent- Teacher association meeting, scheduled for April 16, has been deferred to some indefinite date which has not yet been determined, though April 30 is being considered, it is announced. NOMINATED FOR OFFICE The nominating committee of the Friday club, which meets at the Fort- nightly in Chicago, has selected for the ticket to be presented at the an- nual meeting on Friday, April 16, Mrs. James IL.
